There are more jobs in the US than
there are workers looking for work.

I'm sure you all have heard of the new entertainment thing from hollywood called The Hunt in which the enlightened, anointed, benevolent, ruling class goes on safaris to hunt & kill us deplorables out here in fly-over country. And if you ever thought they would leave you alone … well, you should know better by now, right? They want anyone who disagrees with them dead. End of story.
Friend Jim Davidson passed through town recently, and bought me a hamburger. Thanks Jim! I hardly ever eat out these days. Anyway Jim's writing first appeared in TLE in Issue Number 3 (December 1, 1995), and has been with us since.
Me, I seem to be still here, but sometimes I do wonder if I am going to last. We will see.
In other news, and I hate to beg for money (or any other kind of help), it is time for y'all to step up and help support this here little magazine (“little magazine” is a technical term in Librarianship). I am working on some “premiums” for subscribers (free books actually) and will have more news about that Real Soon Now.
If all of our readers paid $1/month, we would have … uh … golly! $40,000 to $50,000 per month coming in. If I am understanding the Webalizer usage statistics, which maybe I don't. Heck, paying $0.10/month would be $4,000 to $5,000 … heck, paying $0.01/month wouldn't be bad either! Golly. Of course, we currently have 1 subscriber, who pays a whopping $15/month, and let me tell you, we appreciate the heck out of that! So out of around 40,000 or so viewers per month we find only one who is willing and/or able to pay a bit for it (not counting occasional one-time donations, which do occasionally come in, especially when I beg). Povertarians indeed!
Anyway, we have PayPal subscriptions, Patron subscriptions, and SubscribeStar.com
I have been webifying TLE since 1995, and working as editor since 2008. I will keep doing it until I am no longer able, which period of time I have no idea how long will be. And so it goes (and goes), eh?
So, if you would like to help us out, please do. My wife needs new teeth, and the fixed-furnace and new water-header have done already used up all our savings, along with my wife's medicine not covered by insurance (which is about $500/month right there for the medical insurance). We have been slowly approaching "out-go greater-than in-come" and are now there. Prices are going up; income not.
Oh, just using our link to Amazon.com for buying books and stuff will increase the in-come, too. And the other affiliate links, which pretty much haven't brought-in squat, actually. Sometimes I wonder why I bother with them.
Here we have rational ethics summed up nicely by Granny Weatherwax:
“…. And that’s what your holy men discuss, is it?”
“Not usually. There is a very interesting debate raging at the moment about the nature of sin, for example.”
“And what do they think? Against it, are they?”
“It’s not as simple as that. It’s not a black and white issue. There are so many shades of gray.”
“Nope.”
“Pardon?”
“There’s no grays, only white that’s got grubby. I’m surprised you don’t know that. And sin, young man, is when you treat people as things. Including yourself. That’s what sin is.”
“It’s a lot more complicated than that—”
“No. It ain’t. When people say things are a lot more complicated than that, they means they’re getting worried that they won’t like the truth. People as things, that’s where it starts.”
“Oh, I’m sure there are worse crimes—”
“But they starts with thinking about people as things…”
