“Gun control is the idea that it’s better to see a woman dead in an alley, strangled
with her own pantyhose, than to see her with a gun in her hand.”—T.D. Melrose

Robert Heinlein Remembered
by L. Neil Smith
Imagine a lonely kid, undersized and overbright, living on an American air base overseas. Comic books taught him to read years before he started school and he'd tackle anything that fell open under his eyes. Anything about science or space travel leaped off the page as if printed in boldfaced italic. A neighbor's medical texts had such delightfully disgusting diseases you could practice having, and radio magazines … in those days radios had vacuum-filled glass cylinders, see, and—radio? You know, TV for blind people?

Children
by Sarah A. Hoyt
Anyway, day before yesterday I found myself on a facebook discussion on Mediahog’s (I refuse to give him hits in the main post) latest grandstanding, in which commenters were fairly harsh to him. At which point one of the commenters who is leftist for my circles (and probably objectively, though not that insane, yet) complained. He didn’t chide us, but he said that he felt guilty speaking that way “of a child.” Mediahog is 21. I heard the same thing about Greta, and I want to say, yes, she’s a legal child. Though most of what we said was about her pronouncements, not her, except for “I was a teenage mutant wokescold” which… sorry, is true.

Operation Stumblingblock Removal
by Jim Davidson
Three years of not-quite open warfare between the deep state and the American people had taken their toll. The centralised elements of the economy were a mess, and the hoax stream media were constantly showing heads of major corporations lamenting their inability to profit. Pensions and other wealth had been seized to keep the broken system afloat, trying to kick the can down the road. But the road was at the end of a box canyon.

Fascism to the Rescue
by Paul Bonneau
An idea-meme that one runs into on Gab (and no doubt elsewhere) is the notion that fascism will save us from communism. (I am using “idea-meme” to refer to the original definition of “meme” as an idea that spreads through a population, rather than as some picture with a slogan on it.) It’s also claimed that national socialism will save us from communism.

Time’s Feathered Arrow
by Sean Gabb
I feel a vague duty to write something about the general election. However, since everyone else has written almost everything about it that can be written, this is a duty that I feel no compunction about shirking. I will instead write about a subject I have always found of compelling interest—that is, about me.
