Letter from A.X. Perez

Comments on events of 6 February

Kirk Douglas died today at 103.

Donald Trump was acquitted on a party line vote today.

Sadly, I am more surprised and shocked at Mr. Douglas’s passing, but I trust he will go to just reward, or better enjoy God’s mercy. Mr. Trump’s impeachment, trial, and acquittal had bupkis to do with justice, his guilt, innocence, or whether pursuing the case was worth the effort being irrelevant to the process and outcome. It is we the people who need God’s Mercy more than ever with the current Congress and Administration in charge.

Another Letter from Sean Gabb

Dear All,

I’ve written nothing on politics since before the December election. It may be that I’ve gone off the boil since I became officially old. Or it may be that I was more intrested in following than in interpreting events. The truth, though, is that I’ve been busy. I have more Greek and Latin classes than I imagined to exist in modern England, and I have some big lecture courses on the Fall of the Roman Republic and The Nature of Roman Epic. Having to read several plays by Euripides at the same time leaves me with little time for anything else. Ditto my project to render the whole of The Aeneid into simple Latin prose.

Here is a lecture on Roman Inscriptions that I gave last week in the British Museum. It went down well.
