Was that worth reading?
Then why not:
Range Time During the Pandemic
Finally got chance to get some range time. The indoor range I go to reopened after Memorial Day but things have been busy. So I went to get some practice with .40 liberty pistol on Wed. 24 June.
The good news is I shot 120 out of a possible 125 on shorty version of Texas license to carry proficiency test. The bad news is that at 10 yards I start to open up ( six fives and a four) and at 15 yards I definitely need work ( 2 fives, 2 fours, and a three). The target I was shooting was a B-27. What skills do you need to work on? I know that I need to work on shooting past ten yards. I also need to work on my failure to stop drills ( two to the chest, one to the head).
I have practice ammo in 9 mm Luger and .40 Liberty for a minimum of 3 and a maximum of five sessions, then I’ll have to scrounge. My social ammo supply is a bit better, but I could stand an extra hundred rounds of ammo in each caliber. Scoring ammo is a little tricky between the Lockdown rush and the election year rush to buy guns and ammo. Make sure you get a decent supply of both practice and social ammo, and remember that practice ammo is a fungible supply, not a stashing commodity.
My bad hand is definitely more recoil sensitive than my strong hand by a long sight, not just weak and clumsier, but also arthritic. If I’m ever expecting trouble instead of being cautious I will definitely carry a piece in 9 mm Parabellum for my weak hand. I still try to get at least one 10 round mag of .40 off with my bad right hand in practice. Adapt or adjust, what work arounds do you need to develop?
I left my indoor glasses in the car so I had a little trouble with lighting. Also, I had to wear my damn face mask, so my dark glasses kept fogging up. Had to shoot without my glasses (and yes I do need them to see better) part of the time.
Good practice in overcoming adversity, a skill I suspect we’ll need, especially if we intend to be free people this time next year.
