The left obsesses about Hitler because
they’re nostalgic for WWII. It’s the
last time the world made sense to them.

Re: “For Want of a Nail” by L. Neil Smith

For what it’s worth, and for what passes for coherent speech coming from the craven lips of Gardner, she is apparently taking the stand that the McCloskey’s infringed on the “peaceful protesters” right of free speech by unlawful intimidation.

And as you note, the police apologized instead of telling her where to shove her unlawful order.

The governor of Missouri, towards whom the “peaceful protesters” were allegedly marching, has apparently done nothing to right this injustice. His moral cowardice is easy to infer.

And despite his bold rhetoric at Mt. Rushmore and elsewhere, more people are suggesting that Trump has been pistol-whipped into practical submission by the one-two punch of the Covid pandemic and the protests; and, to the extent they believe the polls, are suggesting that he will resign, or at least back out of running at the last minute, rather than risk defeat. (I do believe there is a substantial silent majority, and every Twitter poll I see—many probably biased, but some evidently expecting to show him at a severe disadvantage—is showing Trump ahead by 10—70 points—but I don’t see anyone working to overcome a Democrat fraud machine that is preparing to at least triple the actual Democrat vote. Where is Virgilia Samms when you need her?)

Meanwhile, Glenn Beck is saying that we need a band of people who are willing to stand before the mob, unarmed, and risk being beaten and broken, on the theory that historically that has worked to shame the mob. I hate to tell Glenn that this works in opposition to governments with a vestige of morality, but it has never been effective against either communists or fascists who seek the death or subjugation of their opponents anyway. Besides which, the media would just cover it up anyway; and, the innocent deaths that have already occurred have done nothing to stop them. The most it would do is increase—slightly—the chance that we could retain the Republic after the almost inevitable renewal of the tree of liberty by its natural manure, rather than at best something resembling the limited franchise republic—oft mistaken for a fascist society—of Starship Troopers.

That renewal, if it comes, must be swift. Within one news cycle. Before anyone can respond to drag it out.

Another SF Milestone

Was looking at Gregory Benford’s “The Martian Race” this evening.

Just think—according to the timeline of this novel that published circa 1999 ; humans would be on Mars by now. Instead we are still stuck on Earth on the fast track to oblivion.

So sad.

Letter from A.X. Perez

.40 Liberty (aka .40 S & W) is in short supply right now. Academy Sports is selling it from behind the counter and rationing what they sell. Range I shoot at would only sell me one 50 round box when I showed up without my own (lesson, don’t forget stuff because you get rushed. Bigger lesson, don’t get rushed when essential gear or supplies are involved). To be fair similar shortages and rationing is going on with almost all common calibers, it just happened I was working with .40 this week.

While looking for extended mag sleeves for magazines used with an FNS compact I found out FN was no longer making .40 pistols period or FNS pistols in .45 ACP. They are still making FNX in .45 ACP. They appear to be concentrating on their 509 line and maybe their 503, both in 9mm Luger. They are still selling parts for their .40 and .45 FNS pistols.

Ever since the FBI adopted the Glock 19, 9mm has begun pushing .40 off the market due to the ridiculous claim .40 kicks back too hard for healthy adults to handle. I will concede that if you have an arthritic or crippled hand .40 Liberty is unpleasant to shoot with that hand and 9mm not so much.) Between lowered LE demand for .40 and higher LE and therefor civilian demand for 9mm. expect there to be shortages of both especially during this time of panic buying.

Meanwhile, judiciously build up your supplies of parts and ammunition.

Point of interest: .40 S&W is viewed as a compromise between 9mm Luger an .45 ACP. However, wasn’t it meant to be a compromise between .45 ACP and 10 mm AP?

.40 Liberty, which is an excellent cartridge entirely by accident, was created for the FBI because their big bad agents were too wimpy to handle 10mm.
