The left hates peace, genuine progress, and
prosperity; there’s nothing in it for them.
VALIANT Too

"The most important kind of freedom is to
be what you really are. You trade in your reality for a role. You
trade in your sense for an act. You give up your ability to feel, and
in exchange, put on a mask. There can't be any large-scale revolution
until there's a personal revolution, on an individual level. It's got
to happen inside first."
― Jim MORRISON
Mike and I walked the property this week, and he's dramatically revised his vision for how the property will look when it is finished. We've added room for lots more freedom people, and greatly expanded what we plan to do with the front of the property that is next to the paved county road that runs past. Even better, we're finding ways to avoid registering many activities with the county by using exemptions in place in their system of regulations.
It looks like we'll have approximately 80 to 100 home sites for individuals and families, along with room for RV pull-throughs, a campground, an agora, a restaurant, a bed and breakfast, and self storage buildings near the front of the property. The design calls for several ponds, including some that are used as batteries—solar power during the day pumps water from lower reservoirs to higher ones and gravity at night runs the water the other direction to recover the energy.
Sad Day
Today I learned from a close friend that Spencer MacCallum has passed away. He died yesterday after a very long struggle with cancer.
I worked closely with Spencer MacCallum and Michael van Notten on several projects in Africa, notably a proposed free port for the Awdal territory in what now calls itself the Republic of Somaliland. Spencer had proposed the language for our territory lease agreement. Our goal was to create a new Hong Kong, a free city, within a broader free Greater Somalia. It was not to be. Michael van Notten passed in 2002. Spencer this year.
Those of you who wish to remember him should be aware that he and his wife lived near Mata Ortiz in the Chihuahua state of Mexico. They have a bed and breakfast there. I know that his wife, Emi, will miss him terribly.
Perhaps the best way to remember someone is to remember their work. I very strongly recommend Spencer's book, The Art of Community, available from Amazon or on pdf. You can also read about his ideas and those of his grandfather, Spencer Heath, in this book about developing communities without the state. Spencer was also a champion of the ideas of E.C. Riegel which included the idea of competing currencies long before FA Hayek wrote "The Denationalisation of Money."
You can visit the Heather Foundation web site which was created for Spencer Maccallum to discuss Riegel's ideas here: A New Approach to Freedom.
Those who know me are aware that I can get pretty broken up about losing people I've known. Spencer and I met many times in life, and spent quite a bit of time together corresponding and in person. He and his wife Emi attended the 2002 world congress of Liberty International in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, and we spent quite a bit of time together there. We also met most recently in July 2019 at the home of Alvin Lowi in Rancho Palos Verdes, California.
I'm very sorry to report that at our last meeting, Spencer was in much worse health than I had imagined. He was much thinner and, I believe, in considerable pain when walking. I'm very sorry about his passing yesterday.
Those wanting some solace about this sad event might like my poem on a related topic. On the Death of Friends.
Why Leasehold?
Like everything else we're doing with this open source project to create a community where may be found Voluntaryists & Abolitionists Living in Absolute Non-aggression Today (VALIANT) our purpose is to end the state. To end the state we must avoid doing things to bring it wealth and power.
You don't own your home, now. You lease the ground it sits on and the improvements you've made to it from your county government in most states in the USA, parish government in Louisiana I guess. You pay property taxes, and these are "assessed" by a parasite who works for the county who is the "tax assessor " and may also be the tax collector. These filthy vermin hate humanity and want to evict anyone who doesn't pay their taxes, and most sheriffs are happy to oblige. So don't come at me with "I want to own my own home and you won't let me" because you don't, and your argument is tiresome.
Consider a trailer park. You own the trailer you park there, which might be a double wide or a single wide or an airstream or a mini-camper, or a pop-up tent trailer for all that I know. But you don't expect to own the lot it is parked on, nor the plumbing and electric power and other features of the pad to which you attach. We're actually proposing a lot more features and benefits, so you can use the land you lease from us to grow your own crops, have every other sort of freedom that the zero aggression principle is consistent with, and build permanent structures to suit your needs.
But, if we subdivide the land, that gets the state and county government involved. If we keep it all one unit, they don't have to know what arrangements we've made. We're viewing it as a sort of "religious" community in that the Zero Aggression Principle represents a shared belief system.
Similarly, if we register wells and septic tanks and all kinds of other things with the state, there's going to be all kinds of inspections and detections and this and that. We want to avoid having the parasites anywhere near the property. So we're implementing alternative technologies.
Buying In
You can help us get this project going by introducing me or Mike Swatek to people you know who would like to either live near Lake Eucha, Oklahoma (about 600 feet away, uphill from the lake), or people who would like to invest in a community for freedom lovers. We're working on our plans and I'm happy to share the current version with those who email me. We're here to find ways to make it worth your while.
There's going to be lots of opportunity to visit and have fun together. And, of course, to plan how to cope with the state as it makes its final tyrannical push to get everyone under its thumb forever.
Free the slaves. Stop the wars. End the state. You'll be glad you did.
