Amendment

Submitted in response to Mr. Smith’s excellent missive, by his request.

Such suspension or abridgement is prohibited whether by action, negligence, or verbal or written fraud however communicated. The sole exception shall be actions necessary to protect the life, property, or protected rights of any person or persons under immediate threat. Any person or persons so acting shall be liable for damages or loss to the affected person or persons, shall be barred from holding any office of the United States or of the States, and shall be liable for criminal prosecution in accordance with laws passed by the Congress or the State legislature having jurisdiction.

Bits and Pieces

The Texas State House of Representatives has passed HB 1297, calling for Constitutional carry. The question is if the “Cool, Cool. Considerate Men” in the State Senate find excuses to kill it.

What amazed me was the reaction by so many in Texas to Governor Abbot calling end to statewide lockdown. They reacted with fear and trepidation. While some were reacting with rational concern that the virus was ready to explode if we drop our guard, others came across as if they were afraid to accept the responsibility for themselves of deciding whether or not to wear masks and engage in social distancing. Texas Covid-19 rate continues to drop, or at least not explode as it has in some other states.

I keep hearing the phrase “an abundance of caution.” I just want a clarification, is this phrase supposed to mean “avoid unnecessary and stupid risks” as I usually hear being used or does it mean “It’s okay to be a wuss,” as I sometimes get the feeling people want to use it?

Reminds me of one of my better aphorisms (more fully fleshed out than usual):

Lasers can do many wonderful things. But the average laser also wastes 98% of the energy input. This also applies to socialism, fascism, progressivism, oligarchy, and communism, which systemize and nationalize waste in favor of the shining objective, which points only on one direction—the one it stabilizes in, not necessarily the one originally intended. Free capitalist republics share the harmonious constructive chaos of an ideal blackbody, which illuminates all directions equally.

Re: “When Texas Froze Over” by Sean Gangol

On 2 February, 2011 El Paso, Texas experienced a storm in which we experienced a temperature of zero Fahrenheit, high winds, and .02 inches of snow (we then experienced zero precipitation for the next 7, 8 months, but that’s another story.) Our electric grid and water utilities were “hardened” for temperatures over 110 Fahrenheit. Zero, not so much, which is funny because we often get temperatures in the teens and even below 10 degrees. Bottom line, power outages and water shortages for six days. We rebuilt our infrastructure to take the cold as well as the heat.

We did not lose power in 2021. I don’t remember hearing on the news that East and Central Texas ever had the same experience and didn’t realize they had to “harden” their infrastructure for temperatures approaching zero Fahrenheit. I expect that my kin in East and Central Texas will be better prepared next time the Devil’s private hell freezes over. (Lookup the poem “Hell in Texas”)

Letter from Jeff Fullerton

Re “Marxist BLM leader buys $1.4 million home in ritzy LA enclave”

Another millionaire socialist like Bernie Sanders. I really am in the wrong field. Being a professional champion of the poor and downtrodden or democrat politician is way more financially rewarding than busting your ass and stressing out in a regular job. And it’s recession and pandemic proof too.

However when I looked at the picture of the exterior I began to think she grossly overpaid for the property. Then again this is California where decades of progressive rule have ridiculously inflated everything.

She’s probably not a real communist anymore than the mercantilist rulers of China. And I wonder how ecologically sustainable her lifestyle is? She’s probably more like Al Gore and the atheist pastors. Do as I say not as I do.
