Remember Pearl Harbor
by L. Neil Smith
A BLAST FROM THE PAST You may not believe
it, but I find it difficult to advertise myself, a pursuit which is
nevertheless necessary for survival in my profession, especially for a
novelist as politically incorrect as I am.

Level Setting
by Sarah A. Hoyt
The time has come to have the most serious talk in a
hundred years, a talk that is overdue by at least a hundred years. It
needs to be discussed, history needs to be known, and we need to change
course as fast as possible.

The Gods of the
Copybook Headings
by Rudyard Kipling
As I pass through my incarnations in every age and race,
I make my proper prostrations to the Gods of the Market Place.
Peering through reverent fingers I watch them flourish and fall,
And the Gods of the Copybook Headings, I notice, outlast them all.

Government by Proxy
by Cathy L.Z. Smith
I have, for a very long time, been troubled by the
issues surrounding agency, specifically the morality of agency for hire.
Having once, I confess, thought of pursuing “the law” as a profession, and
understanding fully that no one has any use for a lawyer whose specialty

who found themselves transported back in time and from North America to
the Thuringinwald of Saxon Germany in 1631 had the advantage of knowing
the scarcity of their systems. They were deeply and intrinsically aware of
the coming failure of their technologies, and knew from various library
books how to build up a great many things they would need. Such was the
story in Eric Flint’s book 1632

The Norseman’s Diaries 2021: Tentative Last Entry?
by Jeff Fullerton
Dateline New Year’s Day—1/1/2022 It’s finally
over. A really bad year that makes 2020 look good just like the first year
of Joe Biden makes the 4 years of the Jimmy Carter Administration—or even
8 years of Obama look heavenly by comparison. Another year of fear and
loathing and of some grievous losses of people dear to us. Yet we are
still here and the struggle continues.
