Letter from Cathy Smith

Amidst the horror (of which there is too damn much) some interesting confluences are occurring. Long-time opponents (enemies perhaps being too harsh a word) are finding themselves, finally, in agreement over the horrendous behavior of people who have been allowed to believe (for far too long) that their opinions, and not the opinions of their constituents, are the values to be applied and defended.

Against the spectre of "people" (in the nonsensical corporate sense), never given a mandate of any kind, nevertheless carrying out systematic, government-directed censorship against the very real people whose interests have been routinely savaged by elected and non-elected criminals alike we see alliances between classical liberals (Naomi Wolf, Glenn Greenwald, Tulsi Gabbard), finally having been savaged by "their own" (but never, really) side finding outlets for their voices in the person of Tucker Carlson. Their rational and substantiated arguments (exiled by the mainstream to outlets such as Substack and Patreon) being linked and shared in publications like FREEDOM’S PHOENIX.

We will be adding the work of a British cartoonist, Bob Moran, to the pages of L. Neil Smith’s The Libertarian Enterprise. His artwork is available free-of-charge to publications worldwide and his viewpoint, while England-centric, speaks to the same tragedies we have all experienced, not just for the last two years, but for decades in the making. If you find his art compelling it and other merch is for sale at this website: https://www.bobmoran.co.uk/.

We are surrounded by lunatics with delusions of grandeur, and we need to unite and have deep and serious conversations to understand how this happened, and how to keep it from happening in the future.

The lesson we seem to be learning, in the meantime, is one that is not unfamiliar to the readers of these pages—your opinions are your own, and welcome to them, but no one has the right, under any circumstances, to initiate or delegate the initiation of force against another human being for any reason whatsoever.

That is what it means to be a libertarian.

Regards,
Cathy Smith

The Crusades: (Video Lectures)

The Crusades are the defining event of the Middle Ages. They brought the very different civilisations of Western Europe, Byzantium and Islam into an extended period of both conflict and peaceful co-existence. Between January and March 2021, Sean Gabb explored this long encounter with his students. Here are two of his lectures. All student contributions have been removed.

Letter from Jeff Fullerton

She’s no fan of Vlad. Or fake Libertarians who love him.

This is what passes for science these days.
Familiar talking points about sacrificing the individual for the group and the self loathing litany of how terrible America was to the poor and downtrodden. It’s getting harder to feel empathy for others when you are being literally beaten to death with bogus accusations of guilt for something someone else did 100 years or more before you were born.

Or for other nations or communities of people oppressed and impoverished by malfeasant governance that so many of the members continue to support despite the obvious failures.

Hong Kong now has the world’s highest Covid-19 death rate. What happened, and how can this be fixed?
by Lilian Cheng and Elizabeth Cheung

Deaths from Covid-19 complications in Hong Kong have been crossing the 100 mark daily over the past four days such that the city now has the world’s highest fatality rate for the coronavirus, mostly among undervaccinated elderly residents.

Getting bad in Georgia and Latvia too. That’s uncomfortably close to the theater of operations in Ukraine. Putin picked a fine time and place to start a war. The chaos and mass movement of troops and war refugees huddling in bomb shelters make an ideal situation for spreading pandemic diseases.

COVID-19 spread during Russia-Ukraine war worries WHO officials

“Anytime you disrupt society like this, and put literally millions of people on the move, infectious diseases will exploit that," Dr. Michael Ryan, the executive director of the WHO Health Emergencies Program, said.

I saw it coming.

This could end up like the Influenza that cut down soldiers in the trenches of Europe in World War 1. People are such fools. The same stupidity is involved in the Biden policy of encouraging the migrants to come across the southern border in the midst of a pandemic. Brain dead politicians are a universal phenomenon.
