The Editor’s Notes
Spring keeps pretending to have sprung, and then
goes “gotcha!” and it gets cold again. It‘s some kind of conspiracy or
something. But then, isn‘t everything?

“A Culture of Lawlessness”
by L. Neil Smith
*BLAST FROM THE PAST* Okay, I admit it, I’m
an X-Files fan. Over the past couple of years, it’s become my
family’s favorite TV program. Special Agent Dana Scully is the kid sister
I never had, and her partner Fox Mulder is … pretty strange and more than
a little driven, maybe. But on the other hand, aren’t we all these days?

Socialism Causes Incompetence
by Sarah A. Hoyt
The last time I was in Portugal I got to witness
(actually the time before last, while running through the Lisbon airport)
something I’d only previously read about as being normal in the soviet
union: structures that were being built and decaying, simultaneously,
which seems impossible, but I assure you it’s not.

The Rage Continues
by Sean Gangol
Back in 2008 I published an article titled
“The Rage Against Self-Defense” about a man in my hometown of Houston,
named Joe Horn who was forced to act in self-defense when he confronted
two would-be burglars that were attempting to rob his neighbors’ home.
Even though a grand jury ruled that Horn had acted in self self-defense
left-wing politicians and Social Justice advocates feigned outrage about
the elderly man’s so-called act of vigilantism. At the time I feared that
America was headed down the same destructive path as our English cousins
where law-bidden citizens are stripped of their right to defend themselves
while criminals are given the right to have a safe work environment. Fast
forward thirteen-years later and it seems evident that my fears weren’t
that far off the mark.

Real Change

I’ve previously written about this film, The
Matrix, which was a good film when it came out. The men who made that
film have, well, changed.
