A people that values its privileges above its principles soon loses both. — Dwight D. Eisenhower

Well! We seem to have missed what may be the most important aspect of the Bruen case. It sets a clarified standard for interpreting gun control laws in light of the Second Amendment: does the statute do something that was not common, even traditional, during the early days of the country? If not, it is unconstitutional. Albert Perez has brought one such case to our attention.
Here's another: Hardaway v. Nigrelli - FPC Law 2A Challenge to New York "Places of Worship" Gun Ban, from the Western District of New York, overturns a statute prohibiting carrying firearms "at any place of worship or religious observance".
We'll see what happens to these cases on appeal.
Speaking of "We'll see", am I becoming a Zen Master? In the delightful movie Charlie Wilson's War, (2007) CIA agent Gust Avrakatos discusses plans with Congresscritter Charlie Wilson, and they have this exchange:
Gust Avrakotos: There's a little boy and on his 14th birthday he gets a horse... and everybody in the village says, "how wonderful. The boy got a horse" And the Zen master says, "we'll see." Two years later, the boy falls off the horse, breaks his leg, and everyone in the village says, "How terrible." And the Zen master says, "We'll see." Then, a war breaks out and all the young men have to go off and fight... except the boy can't cause his legs all messed up. and everybody in the village says, "How wonderful."
Charlie Wilson: Now the Zen master says, "We'll see."
More and more, my attitude is becoming, "We'll see."
And we'll see what's in this issue of TLE. A review of Kwasi Kwarteng's book, War and Gold, and a comment on his recent, ah, meteoric rise to prominence.
And two very different views of the future. Both, if I may tell you without giving away too much, are ultimately optimistic.
The post-woke era is here: The ideologues are running out of road. I'm not sure it's here yet, but I do see the dawn. Regardless, this is an interesting analysis of where we go from here. I'm not convinced that a woke elite that tries to persuade is any better than a woke elite that coerces and cancels. Didn't they take up coercion and cancellation precisely because they couldn't persuade? We will see.
