“Gun control is the idea that it‘s better to see a woman dead in an alley, strangled
with her own pantyhose, than to see her with a gun in her hand.”—T.D. Melrose

The Government That Cried "Terrorist"
by L. Neil Smith
*BLAST FROM THE PAST* Several weeks ago -- before September 11 -- I got a message from a friend and fellow freedom fighter who wanted to know what I thought of rumors that the government has built secret detention camps all over America, ready to warehouse dissenters and others it deems undesirable under whatever circumstances it declares to be a national emergency. It was the first she'd heard of this; to say she was appalled is an understatement.

The Artificial Intelligence Revolution in Social Media: How State Power and Algorithms Can Threaten Humanity: Section 2: Data and real examples
by Antônio F. Oliveira
Since the emergence of social media in the mid-2000s, the internet has been viewed as a promise of greater democratization and participation in politics. The possibility of direct communication between citizens, politicians and institutions seemed to offer a path to greater transparency, engagement and inclusion, but recent years have also shown that the internet is not a neutral terrain. The uses of digital technologies in politics are permeated by risks such as electoral manipulation and manipulation of public opinion.

The Same Tired Arguments
by Sean Gangol
Not too long after the shooting at an elementary school in Uvalde Texas, the gun control discussion group on Facebook that I had been a member of for only for a few months was flooded with anti-gun users who used the same tired old arguments. The Golden Rule Revisited
by Steve Heller
Afew years ago, a friend of mine asked me the question “If you could have two wishes granted by an all-powerful, all good, all-knowing genie, what would they be?”
I thought for a few seconds and then answered “I don’t need two wishes. I only need one.”

Ares cover

Coming on June 20th, L. Neil Smith's Ares!

While humanity is spreading their wings, leaving Earth to colonize large bodies of the Solar System, their home planet’s waring nations and internal political powerplays are tearing countries apart, increasing social and class divides. The President of the United States himself, Horton Willoughby III, is but a puppet to his wife’s scheming, and governs over only Eastern America, civil war having caused a catastrophic divide down the center of the United States. Western America won’t heed his administration, and international leaders see him for the political farce that he is.
