EDITORIAL MATTERS:

A special treat for you, dear reader. This issue of TLE includes, for the very first time anywhere, Timepeeper, a Film Treatment by L. Neil Smith. Just the first of many special treats in store for our readers in this, our 10th year of publication. Stay tuned!

Next week is December 25th. You aren't expecting me to slave over a hot keyboard on Christmas Eve to put together an issue of TLE are you? And the week after that is January 1. We traditionally take Christmas and New Year's off, and will continue that happy tradition this year as well. Happy happy tradition. But, come January 8, 2006, TLE will come roaring back, maybe with another of those special treats. We will see!

PBS Continues Probe into Biased Film

On Nov. 29, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting issued a report on the Public Broadcasting Service documentary "Breaking the Silence: Children's Stories." (The CPB oversees the tax-funding and content of PBS.) The documentary, which addressed domestic violence and children, is accused of being anti-father, factually inaccurate and politically motivated. Using the words "slanted" and "no hint of balance," in the report, CPB Ombudsman Ken A. Bode concluded, "The producers apparently do not subscribe to the idea that an argument can be made more convincing by giving the other side a fair presentation."
