THE CURRENT ISSUE

EDITORIAL MATTERS:

You can't make this stuff up, folks:

"Would it have been better if we'd never invented the internet?"
—Senator Jay Rockefeller

"What a maroon...."—B. Bunny

This last week was one of those medical excitement weeks. Late night trip to the E.R. "Atrial flutter" they called it. Electric shock to the ol' ticker required. New pill added to the daily list. Nearly passing-out in the shower from the new pill. Good ol' side effects. Just one thing after another. Hope your week was better!

We're slightly late due to late-breaking events and stuff.

Reader-Supported eMagazine you know. Let me list some ways:

As well as clicking on our advertisers and affiliates and spending some money with them.

We are still running our poll:

Mass-Shootings
Do you suspect, however reluctantly, that at least some of the mass-shootings over the past two or three decades were deliberately engineered to achieve a political goal?

Yes
No
Don't know/Have no opinion

Please spread the word about it. Send 'em to ncc-1776.org to cast their opinion upon the eWaters. So to speak.

(Don't forget L. Neil Smith's novel Ceres is being published on the web, with a new chapter every Monday:

This One's for Holly
by L. Neil Smith
Recently, a reader of mine named Holly wrote: "Can I ask how you made the judgment on which scientists to believe? I am interested in climate science and just started reading RealClimate, thanks in part to your post. To be honest, I respect your literary work and was surprised to hear you, as a science fiction author, naysay what I thought was serious and substantial scientific study. So I'd like to know whether you have favorite information resources to recommend. Thanks!"

Further Thoughts on Citigroup
by Jim Davidson
A few weeks ago, I mocked the comments by Vikram Pandit that Citigroup anticipated its best results since the last time it bothered to post a profit (third quarter 2007, as I recall). Not only had it lost money in each of the prior five quarters, it had lost a staggering sum in 2008. But there he was, talking up his company's stock, with the fatuous claim that they were going to post profits for first quarter 2009.

Who Profits?
by Ron Beatty
There's an old saying: Once is happenstance, twice is coincidence, three (or more) times is enemy action. While not normally a fan or even a follower of conspiracy theories, I have to admit that the events of the last few years have made me more than a bit uneasy. Between the very disturbing images of the WTC towers falling, EXACTLY in their own footprints, the so-called economic crisis, the spate of mass shootings, and now the complete over-reaction to this newest flu scare, I'm wondering just who profits?

Caught in the Middle
by A.X. Perez
I am a practicing Catholic, God willing I may even get it right some day. Yup, what some people call a Papist, or less politely a Pape. This puts me in an interesting position. On the one hand Catholics meet the DHS definition of Right Wing Extremists because of our disapproval of abortion except to save the mother's life. On the other hand their is a certain amount of antiCatholic bigotry, caused by, among other things, the Church's disapproval of artificial birth control methods (please don't send me a list of how the Church has successfully pissed off both left and right or a diatribe explaining how Papes got it coming.). In other words that makes Catholics (including me) a target of RWE terrorism. terrorism at least partially incited by left wing criticism of the Church of Rome.

What Would the Libertarian World Order (LWO) look like?
by Gerald Montgomery
I think the time has come to call the game. A world SuperState is here. The entire legal groundwork is in place. Dubya has handed the USA into the talons of the New World Order and Obama is going to seal the deal by delivering the Republic into total tyranny. The American Union has already been authorized. Canada, the US, and Mexico are now considered one trading bloc.

A Warning to the Public
by L. Neil Smith
With the notation, "I don't know whether to laugh or cry," friend and fellow conspirator Jim Lesczynski ("our man in Manhattan") just sent me a press release from the national Libertarian Party that not only misrepresents the consistent libertarian position on an important issue of the day—the freedom to travel—but shamelessly sucks up to a renegade federal government toward which it was intended to be adversarial.
