Mayo Clinic vs Veteran's Hospital

Remember the method in my TLE article "Ask the Right Question"? [1]

Asking the right question regarding government provided health care is long overdue.

It should be noted that the USA government ALREADY has COMPLETE CONTROL of the "health care" provided to veterans -- and it is widely acknowledged to be an abomination! We already KNOW what to expect from government health care. We have seen it and read about it for decades!

Hey, Obama! Want to "prove" that your government run health care ideas really work? FIX VETERAN'S CARE FIRST!!

So what does Obama-care propose to do? It proposes to make us all equal by treating us all (except politicians, of course) like it currently treats veterans.

Obama acknowledged[2] that the ideal care is that provided by a private enterprise, with lower costs and better service, known as the Mayo Clinic -- and then, instead of deregulating health care and allowing a free market where other private enterprises can adopt their model, he proposes a government program that will drive them all out of business.

So there you have it folks. The choice is really pretty simple.

Where would YOU go for a serious medical problem: the privately run Mayo Clinic, or the government run Veteran's Hospital?

Now THAT is the right question!

[2] http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/Politics/story?id=7910304&page=1 From President Obama's Interview with Diane Sawyer on "Good Morning America" it is obvious that he understands that private enterprise works in health care because he describes the process perfectly.

OBAMA: "Well, I think what's important is to say to the American People that you should get the best possible care to make you well. And that the measure of the quality of care is not quantity, but whether or not it is making you better. Now, what we've seen is that there's some communities and some health systems that do this very well. Mayo Clinic, a classic example. In Rochester, Minnesota. People go there. They-- spend about 20-30 percent less than some other parts of the country, and yet have better outcomes. And in other cases, you've got more spending, worse outcome."
And then, after admitting that "some health systems ... do this very well", he immediately describes how he plans to steal their business model to solve a problem that he admitted does NOT exist, and to regulate them out of business (at taxpayer's expense, of course)!!
"So, what we've said is let's put out the research. Let's study and figure out what works and what doesn't. And let's encourage doctors and patients to get what works. Let's discourage what doesn't. Let's make sure that our payment incentives allow doctors to do the right thing. Because sometimes our payment incentives don't allow them to do the right things. And if we do that, then I'm confident that we can drive down costs significantly."
