Because That's How They Roll

I had a woman threaten to shoot me recently. I was at work,
and I was engaged in a discussion with one of my coworkers on the comparative
morality of dog fighting versus a government prohibition on the same behavior.
My position was that this was a private property issue, and while I find dog
fighting eminently reprehensible, and could not stand the thought of my own
beloved pet being subjected to such inhumane treatment, the state has no
legitimate authority to dictate private use of private property, and that
allowing them to do so is to sanction far more violence than would ever be
perpetrated by those engaging in the proscribed activity in the first place.

Many of the current opponents of nationalized health care
are quick to point out how a single payer system will create rationing, decrease
quality, encourage discrimination in care, and incentivize increased "illegal"
immigration. They describe in almost fetishistic detail exactly how bureaucrats
and "death panels" will decide exactly how much care your parents and children
will get, and exactly when they will get cut off. They have graphs and charts
that show how it will increase consumer costs, and taxation, and interference
in your lives.

and made a comment on their wall. When the winning flight for the X Prize took
place in 2004, Sir Richard Branson, knight of the Hanoverian usurpation, said
that there would be tourist flights in 2007. Call it three years or 36 months.
Some of us were even sent marketing materials and sign-up packets so we could
evaluate the proposal to charge $200K or more for an eight minute flight above
the atmosphere with half a dozen other people.
