Special to The Libertarian Enterprise

The United States of America has been arguably the most important and influential nation to ever exist on Planet Earth. Other empires have come and gone on the world's stage. But the USA has affected more human beings than any other empire in history.

Think about how the world would be different today if Washington had behaved itself over the last two centuries. Let's consider how different the world would be if not for America's mischief. And make no mistake. The American people are responsible for Washington and equally culpable for the world's present condition. Why? Because, on balance, Americans allowed their politicians to be dishonest and rewarded them with re-election.

The most foundational principle in all human action is honesty. Every human goes through his day deciding over and over whether to be honest or dishonest... to tell the truth or commit fraud. And honesty resides in word and in deed. Unfortunately, it seems that humans in governments make a conscious effort to defraud on nearly every level of human interaction. That's certainly a generalization, but it's hard to defend Washington's systemic dishonesty.

I was standing in my kitchen Sunday, cooking up some bratwurst prior to the Falcons/49ers game. The theme of this article has been percolating through my gray matter for some days now. As I stood flippin' the brats, the lyrics of the Brian Wilson song "Wouldn't It Be Nice?" dropped into my brain. Brian Wilson is a musical genius who was a part of the legendary rock group "The Beach Boys." Wilson has written some of the most iconic and popular songs of the last half of the 20th Century. Sure, this is a love song about wanting to be happily married. But let's look at how it applies to the desire of a growing throng to live in a place where they can be happily free and not a slave of the state.

Wouldn't it be nice if we were older?
Then we wouldn't have to wait so long
And wouldn't it be nice to live together
In the kind of world where we belong?
You know it's gonna make it that much better
When we can say goodnight and stay together
Wouldn't it be nice?

In my seldom-humble opinion, all of the interactions between Washington and the rest of the world... including the American citizens... are based in a commitment to systematic dishonesty and fraud. Washington's every move is inextricably linked to a failed economic philosophy and the commitment to debasement of American money. And a monetary policy that promotes dishonesty, theft and plunder affects every other facet of how Washington operates around the world. Stated another way, Washington's every motive and every action MUST support its deliberate methods of dishonesty, theft and plunder of the American populace and all other nations. Any other action would discredit and undermine Washington's commitment to dishonesty and plunder. It's a tightly wrapped world view package in which all of the parts support the basic theme.

Consider with me a few ways that Washington DC has ruined the world.

Economics
Washington naturally and wholly adopted the economic theories of Lord John Maynard Keynes, the British economist who convinced Winston Churchill to abandon the gold standard for Great Britain in 1925. Keynesian economics promotes unchecked government spending, a powerful central bank, currencies not backed by specie, and government control of wages, prices, supply and demand. The British Pound Sterling was the world's reserve currency for most of the 18th and 19th Centuries, and the first part of the 20th. But by the end of WWII, Great Britain was functionally broke, as they had been printing currency to pay for social programs and war. The USA emerged from WWII as the world's new reserve currency with gold-backed money. But DC worked feverishly to abandon honesty and fidelity in government as they embraced Keynesian economics. Consequently, American foreign policy worked hand-in-glove with a monetary policy that supported its goals of dishonesty and plunder.

Monetary Policy: When push comes to shove, most everything is about money. It doesn't really matter if it's dollars, yuan, rubles, yen, lira, euros, rupees, or pesos. There is only one choice that can be made here between: (a) honest money, or (b) counterfeit money.

The world's reserve currency is still the dollar. Since the days of Alexander Hamilton, power-hungry men have fought for a central bank. And a central bank only exists for facilitating the expansion of government power. Central banks help dilute the value of money by issuing counterfeit currencies and facilitating fractional reserve banking, another method of counterfeiting. Washington decoupled its currency from the gold/silver-backed dollar system decades ago. When the dollar became the world's reserve currency after World War II, it was still backed by precious metals under the Bretton Woods System. European countries and Japan deliberately devalued their currencies against the dollar in order to boost exports and development. Nixon finally finished decoupling the dollar from gold in 1971. So, instead of nations being able so settle debts with gold, they only receive paper money. And legal tender laws made the paper dollar money, rather than specie (coins) or bullion. As the dollar was inflated by Washington monetary policy, the value of the dollar shrank.

The International Monetary Fund, headquartered about three blocks from the White House on Pennsylvania Avenue, has been the global loan shark for the Washington mob. IMF loans have always had American strings attached, and IMF loans to nations around the world have resulted in regime changes, coups d'état, assassinations, wars and national insolvencies. (To learn more, read Confessions of an Economic Hit Man

In essence and in fact, Washington has defrauded the entire world by flooding the world with counterfeit dollars. And Washington has taught the nations of the world how to expand their governments through debasement of their currencies. The end result is that there is not one nation of the world whose currency is 100% convertible to specie or bullion... at least to my knowledge. Do you know of one? But this means that when the dollar collapses, all the other nations of the world will be affected in direct proportion to how their nation is tied to the dollar.

Wouldn't it be nice if we could wake up
In the morning when the day is new
And after having spent the day together
Hold each other close the whole night through
The happy times together we've been spending
I wish that every kiss was never ending...
Wouldn't it be nice?

Foreign Policy
American foreign policy is summed up in one word... plunder. It's all about stealing from the rest of the nations of the globe.

Military and War
The American military-industrial complex, led by the Pentagon, creates markets for war materiel worldwide. That means inflated currencies and IMF loans so those nations will have the money to buy those products of death and destruction. DC regularly sells weapons to both sides of a conflict, like Israel and Saudi Arabia. There would not be military bases scattered in over 130 nations around the world if it weren't for America's imperialism and insatiable desire for world domination through plunder, not ethical leadership.

Intelligence
America's "intelligence" community has become wildly corrupt over the decades, committing every crime imaginable under the guise of "national security." It is widely acknowledged that certain spy organizations have funded their misdeeds through drug trafficking. They have helped install and then overthrow dictators and governments, committed assassinations and started wars... so munitions will be used and the nations will need more. The American intelligence community regularly plays nations against one another. Without a commitment to fundamental dishonesty, this would be impossible.

Drug Policy
Washington's War on Drugs is hopelessly corrupt, with government officials at every level on the take. They fight drugs with the left hand and take bribes with the right. Washington knows that Prohibition was a miserable failure in the early 20th Century, but it was not Washington that stopped Prohibition. Repeal of the 18th Amendment ended the "War on Booze." This time, Washington is using the same playbook as in Prohibition, just not relying on a Constitutional Amendment. And counterfeit money pays for it all.

I could go on with more examples, but I think I have made my point.

If Washington would have chosen honesty and integrity in government, it would have had to choose real money, which is gold and silver. Paper currencies would have been issued by the banks where the precious metals were stored. There would be no central bank. There would be no fractional reserve banking practices. It would have been impossible for Washington to debase the currency. Any currency issued by the US Treasury would have been competing with banks, and any debasement would be instantly recognizable. The market would have shunned any debased currency.

Washington would never have been able to tax and spend wildly and profligately, but would have been forced to live within its means. There would be no off-budget items. Generally-accepted accounting principles would have applied to Washington budgets.

With Washington's example of sound money, nations around the world would have been forced to live within their means, since the world's reserve currency would have prevented inflation, not caused it.

Washington's example of foreign policy would have respected the sovereignty of other nations, sought trade with friends, and peace with all.

Washington's example of honesty in matters of intelligence and national security would have meant that America could have been trusted globally.

With Washington's example of a military that defended America's borders and nothing further, the nations of the world would have learned to settle their disputes without war. But even if wars erupted, they would have been small skirmishes instead of World Wars.

With Washington's example of protecting individual liberty, drug wars would not exist.

Maybe if we think and wish and hope and pray... it might come true
Baby, then there wouldn't be a single thing we couldn't do...
We could be married and then we'd be happy,
Wouldn't it be nice?

Secession of an American state holds all the hope for individual liberty and property rights... all the potential for a second chance for what might have been. Is it possible that a newly minted nation, rescuing itself from the absolute corruption of the American Empire, could turn what might have been into WHAT IS?

You know it seems the more we talk about it
It only makes it worse to live without it
But let's talk about it...
Wouldn't it be nice?

Secession is the Hope for Mankind. Who will be first?
