From the Author of the Necronomicon I know this appears counter intuitive to anti-tax ideals. However, if you think about it.... A plan to end deficit spending. Pass an Amendment to the Constitution requiring that a head tax equal to 100% of the deficit be levied on top of all other taxes whenever Congress runs a deficit. For example, this year it would be between $4500.00 and five grand even. A person, even if you're on welfare, newborns and great grandmas. A person, A family of four would pay $20,000.00 plus the rest of their taxes. I expect that the first year there was a deficit there would also be a lot of special elections. I also suspect the majority of the next Congress would be freshmen. The current system rewards deficit spending (it's called rent paying, Congressmen get reelected for spending more money than they collect in taxes). The goal of this proposal of course is not to raise taxes but to penalize those who do by putting them in a situation that will get them lynched. Abdul Alhazred
Note to CongressCritters The following has been sent to my representative and senators:

Was that worth reading? Spanish As A Second Language There may be those among you who support including Spanish in our national language. I for one am 110% against this! We must preserve the exclusivity and above all, the purity of the English language. To all the shlemiels, shlemazels, nebbishes, nudniks, klutzes, putzes, shlubs, shmoes, shmucks, nogoodniks and momzers that are out there pushing Spanish, I just want to say that I, for one, believe that English and only English deserves linguistic prominence in our American culture. To tell the truth, it makes me so farklempt, I'm fit to plotz. This whole Spanish schmeer gets me broyges, specially when I hear these erstwhile mavens and luftmenschen kvetching about needing to learn Spanish. What chutzpah! These shmegeges can tout their shlock about the cultural and linguistic diversity of our country, but I, for one, am not buying their shtick. It's all so much dreck, as far as I'm concerned. I exhort you all to be menschen about this and stand up to their fardrayte arguments and meshugganah, farshtunkene assertions. It wouldn't be kosher to do anything else. Remember, when all is said and done, we have English and they've got bubkes! The whole myseh is a pain in my tuchas! Charles Heller

New book from Sean Gabb Literary Essays
Why bother learning Latin? How did the Romans pronounce Greek? Should the Elgin Marbles be handed over to the Modern Greeks? Did the ancients have market economies? Should Epicurus be venerated above Plato and Aristotle? Why is Carol Ann Duffy not even a bad poet? What makes Macaulay a great historian and L. Neil Smith a great science fiction novelist? Why is The Daily Maileasily the best newspaper in Englandnot fit for wrapping fish and chips? Sean Gabb deals with these and other issues in this collection of essays. Lively and provocative, they are written for every lover of ancient or modern literature. Pre-publication comments on this book: "A brightly shining exception to the observations of Lord Acton, Sean
is not just a great man, he is a good man. If there were a thousand of
him, even a hundred, we could have a decent, livable society tomorrow.
We probably will, in the end, and when we do, a very large part of
that victory will be his own to claim."
"Libertarians have sound ideas but are not always great writers, and
are not usually authorities on literature and literary matters. Rarer
still is the literary essayist who is not confused or ignorant about
politics and economics. It is thus refreshing to encounter Sean Gabb's
literary writing. A long-time libertarian activist and writer who is
also a superb novelist and literary essayist, an honest and clear
writer, he is our modern libertarian man of letters. This splendid and
sparkling collection of essays provides fascinating insights into
literature and other literary topics, without the typical leftist
baggage and economic illiteracy."

What would England and the world have been like in 1959 if there had been no Second World War? For one possible answer, read Sean Gabb's new novel The Churchill Memorandum. If you like Bulldog Drummond and Biggles and the early James Bond, this will be right up your street: Was that worth reading?
