Attribute to L. Neil Smith's The Libertarian Enterprise

The New World Order, according to television commentator Melissa Harris-Perry, of MSNBC (transcribed from a video on YouTube):

"We have never invested as much in public education as we should have, because we've always had kind of a private notion of children. Your kid is yours, and totally your responsibility. We haven't had a very collective notion of these are our children. So part of it is we have to break through our kind of private idea that kids belong to their parents, or kids belong to their families, and recognize that kids belong to whole communities. Once it's everybody's responsibility, and not just the household's, then we start making better investments."

I have never heard a more articulate argument for abolishing the public schools altogether, emptying the buildings out, razing them to the ground so that not one stone is left standing on another, and sowing salt on the ruins.

Republicanoids will argue that this is going too far, that we need public schools. That's one of many reasons I call them "right-wing socialists". All of the responses I've seen from them so far contend that children do belong to their families, or to some deity, but that is equally wrong -- and evil.

Children belong to themselves, and to nobody else. As long as we fail to get that clear in our heads, we will continue to be infested with leeches, cooties, mosquitos, and other bloodsucking parasites like this prettified daughter of Lenin on MSNBC.
