Give 'Em Heller!
by C.D. Michel
In 1988, when Florida first considered passing a shall-issue concealed carry permitting (CCW) law, gun control groups hysterically predicted massive public bloodshed and shoot-outs in the streets. But nothing like their dire predictions has ever happened. In fact, after Florida civilians were allowed to legally carry guns in public for self-defense, certain categories of violence plummeted. For example, in the first five years after Florida allowed concealed carry, murders went down 21%, while nationally they rose 9%.

From the Rust Belt to the Asteroid Belt: Freeman Dyson Calling All Heretics
by Jeff Fullerton
Freeman Dyson; the physicist who almost gave us the atomic pulse drive rocket known as Project Orion is one of the few surviving giants among the visionaries from the Space Race in the 1960s. And at age 90 he's still going strong. As evidenced in this online lecture discovered earlier this week concerning Heretical Thoughts About Science and Society. A very refreshing point of view from the get go which makes the case that we need a lot more people to challenge the conventional wisdom of the day.

Neale's Weekly Gun Rant Volume 8-17-2014
by Neale Osborn
Needless to say, the Victim Disarmers will pooh-pooh the facts, and merely claim we're all crazy gun fondling psychopaths bent on violence and destruction. Of course, if that WERE true, there'd be one hell of a lot more firearms violence, rather than an ever DECREASING amount of it (other than in places where gun ownership is strictly controlled, like Shitcago!)

EDITORIAL MATTERS

Thanks to all the people who wrote me about the links-to-articles problem for last week's issue. I used to be a lot smarter than I am now. I also used to see better—I got an appointment with my local eye-center for next week. I suspect it is just that old "post-cataract-cataract" thing (a.k.a. "anterior capsular opacification". Honest!). A quick blast with a high-powered laser fixes that—I just hope there's not a sudden power surge just as the surgeon pushes the button, generating a laser pulse that burns a hole all the way to the back of my head that lets my brains run out onto the floor. But what are the odds of that, eh?

And while I'm at it, let me thank all the people who have gonated some spare change to help support us and our mission of making the world safe for the Decleration of Independence and the Bill of Rights. If not the world, at least our country. What's left of it.

Now a question for all our readers: Do any of you actually ever click on our Advertising or Affiliate links and buy something? I mean, Amazon.com is one of our best affilliate programs, and I buy stuff from them all the time. Do any of you? And if you do, why not go there via one of our links? We aren't going to get rich that way, but a little bit of extra cash will come in handy.

And, finally, the sky is falling after all:

I'll be continuing this FYI:

To our friends who have patiently refrained from asking, Neil suffered a stroke on June 28. He is currently in an excellent acute rehabilitation program at a facility in Northern Colorado and is making good progress. I'm happy to share information. If you want updates, please let me know by email and I'll reply. Giovanni and I are working on making the house (built in 1949) accessible for Neil's eventual return.
