Here was a rational ethical guideline, a way for Killer Apes to trade and get along without eating one another, that was more profound, better "engineered", and more universal in its application than either the Golden Rule or Kant's Categorical Imperative.

ZAP: The Heart, Soul, Spine, Guts, and Cojones of Libertarianism
by L. Neil Smith
The natural enemy of a rational social order appears to be the
shrimp cocktail, or the bacon-wrapped shrimp. Stick with me, while I attempt to
explain how the corrupt desire to be invited to all of the "right" cocktail parties
undermines and threatens the most admirable and fundamental philosophical achievements
of the libertarian movement.

Thanks for the Apology—I Knew What I Was Getting Into

Love your endorsement of John McAfee. The office for which I ran

I am writing three more. I'll probably get harassed by the cops and the statists for them too.

She: A History of Adventure (1887)
by Richard Blake
Published in 1887, after being serialised in The Graphic, She: A
History of Adventure stands at the beginning of modern fantasy literature. This was
the decade in which the expansion of historic time required by Darwin and the geologists
was established in the public mind. The space had opened for thoughts of civilisations
before our own, and even before the previously unknown or dimly-known civilisations now
being revealed by the archaeologists. I will not say that She was the first book
to fill this space. But it was the most notably triumphant. It is a classic that has
never gone out of print. It is said to have sold almost a hundred million copies, and
has been translated into dozens of languages. Its influence remains pervasive within
the various genres and sub-genres to which it gave birth.

Freedom

Freedom—Is there man born who lusts not after liberty?
Freedom—Are there anywhere souls who crave not to be free?
Those who would not look up to the sky and to God vow,
One has the right to live one's life the way one chooses how?

Trump and the Rise of the Unprotected
Why political professionals are struggling to make sense of the world they created.
by Peggy Noonan
Feb. 27, 2016
There are the protected and the unprotected. The protected
make public policy. The unprotected live in it. The
unprotected are starting to push back, powerfully.
The protected are the accomplished, the secure, the
successful—those who have power or access to it. They
are protected from much of the roughness of the world.
More to the point, they are protected from the world they
have created. Again, they make public policy and have for
some time.
I want to call them the elite to load the rhetorical dice,
but let‘s stick with the protected.
They are figures in government, politics and media. They
live in nice neighborhoods, safe ones. Their families
function, their kids go to good schools, they‘ve got some
money. All of these things tend to isolate them, or
provide buffers. Some of them—in Washington it is
important officials in the executive branch or on the
Hill; in Brussels, significant figures in the European
Union—literally have their own security details.
Because they are protected they feel they can do pretty
much anything, impose any reality. They‘re insulated from
many of the effects of their own decisions.

THE GREATEST COMIC ADVENTURE EVER PUBLISHED Now available
online, in full color
Remember the Alamo?
In an alternate universe, frontiersman Davy Crocket
survived the 1836 siege at the Alamo, and Mexican General
Santa Ana did not. This changed history for all of North
America: Texas remained an independent republic; Mexico
fell under rule of the French and did not regain her
independence.
In 1947, Texican President Charles A. Lindbergh learns
that something has crashed near the far west Texas town of
Roswell. He dispatches his best friend, "Wild Bill Bear",
and three of his best Texas Rangers, to investigate. Our
four heroes find themselves in a race against agents from
the United States and Britain, the Franco-Mexican Empire,
the California Republic, and the Third-and-a-Half Reich,
to find that crashed machine and learn its secrets. And as
a result, they will change the course of history—again.
Wild Bill and his motley crew of Texas Rangers ride again,
this time in a hi-resolution, full color .PDF release of
the popular alternate history story from five-time
Prometheus award winner L. Neil Smith and cartoonist
legend Rex F. May (a.k.a. "Baloo"). Now readers can enjoy
the full effect of Scott Bieser and Jen Zach's marvelous
art for this fantastic tale of strangely familiar people
living in an even stranger world that is all too familiar.
This grand adventure, serialized on the web in 2006-2007
and printed in greyscale in 2008 can now be yours to enjoy
in hi-resolution and full color. Be the first kid on your
block to get this gigantic masterpiece of a story, now
