For some time, I've meant to write various legislators, bureaucrats, and other sucklers at the public jugular to say, "Congratulations, assholes—beginning with the most decent, livable culture in history, in just two centuries you've managed, with taxation, regulation, and conscription, to turn it into a prison whose best and brightest inmates, whatever disagreements they may cherish among themselves, are of a single mind when it comes to escaping from it." Everybody wants out: the condition's so uniform and universal hardly anybody sees it, let alone anything strange about it. Even when they do, they miss its central significance.

Suppose There Were a Gang...

Suppose there were a gang... A gang which required members to rape, pillage, and attack people as a condition of membership. A gang which financed all its activities, and bought all its clothing and equipment, with money it stole from the local population. A gang which bragged about driving nice cars stolen from people they attacked. Any member who didn't commit those acts on a regular basis would be kicked out, and quite probably be subject to revenge by the other members.

The Wrong Time

If you ever saw the parody movie Airplane! you may remember Lloyd Bridge's classic line, "Looks like I picked the wrong time to quit (vice of choice)." Now, please understand, I do not believe in gun control. I view it as late stage lung cancer passing itself off as a cure for AIDS. The leaders (including many who stay in the shadows) of the gun control movement are wannabe Schicklgrubers and Dzhugashvilis and their followers at best completely brainwashed dupes and at worst criminals who wish to disarm their victims.

Is There a God?

However, since my novels all deal in various ways with religious matters, I feel I have lost the right to silence. So the short answer to both parts of the question is yes.
