Dear LNeil,
Last Thursday, the U.S. Department of Justice formally charged Dr. Jumana Nagarwala for performing female genital mutilation (FGM) on young girls in Michigan. This represents the first case in the history of the United States to be tried under 18 U.S.C. 116, which criminalizes FGM.
Despite the horrific nature of this practice, ABC, CBS, and NBC have been completely silent about it on their morning and evening shows since this news broke last week.
MRC President Brent Bozell and ACT for America Chairman Brigitte Gabriel issued the following joint statement blasting the major media networks for their silence:
“The media’s moral compass is hopelessly broken. We have the first case of the brutal practice of FGM in the United States, and the networks are AWOL. You would think an extremely brutal practice of violence against women would make TV headlines here at home, but you would be wrong.
“Where is the outrage? The hypocrisy is staggering. The networks, which have for years championed the causes of left-wing feminists and women’s rights, are conspicuously silent on this case, and their silence is deafening. This is real exploitation of young girls and the usual suspects who ought to care have little to say about this form of torture making its way to America. This practice is illegal and immoral. The networks have an ethical responsibility to report that it’s happening here at home. If they don’t, they are guilty of aiding and abetting violence against women out of a politically-correct fear of offending Muslims.”

Update 4/23 (with opinions)
Texas HB 1911 (…granting authority to carry a firearm to an unlicensed person who otherwise meets certain requirements for a handgun license…) has been favorably reported out of the Homeland Security and Public Safety Committee and is waiting for the Calendar Committee to schedule when it will go to the floor of the House. Its Establishment proponents (and it is the Establishment response to HB 385) admit it is a permitless carry, not a Constitutional Carry, bill. Hopefully this bill will make it through the Senate and be ratified, more to follow.
Also hopefully, HB 375 will get passed, if not this session, at least as language in a new bill in 2019. Having read both bills I have to admit that 375 is much closer to the intent of the 2nd Amendment than 1911. However, 1911 is more likely to pass the Senate and not get vetoed than 375.
For example HB 375 includes, and HB 1911 lacks the following phrase:
The mere possession or carrying of a handgun, openly or concealed, with or without a license issued under this subchapter, shall not constitute reasonable belief for a peace officer to disarm or detain an otherwise law-abiding person.
This phrase is definitely within the intent of the Second Amendment (as extended to state law by the Supremacy Clause and the 14th Amendment). It's lack is a definite flaw in 1911. Similar language was included in Texas 2015 Open Carry Bill as an Amendment. It was proposed by liberals who would normally have been anti-gun but who were concerned that the lack of such language would have led to racial profiling and persecution under law of non whites in some jurisdictions. It also had to be removed because of lobbying by police chiefs led to a situation where the bill was not going to pass unless the language was removed.
Get HB 1911 passed and dig in to fight for corrections/improvements in the future sez (says) I ( by way of admitting this is my opinion and subject to rebuttal and refutation.). Better that than losing permitless carry this year. Then we can bring it up to full Constitutional Carry in 2019. This will keep us militant and fighting against victim disarmament in Texas (and readers in other states need to keep up the struggle. No matter how much you've won a change in the winds can take it away, no matter how horrible the laws in your state are, you can make them better.)
Talking about resisting victim disarmament, HB 790, ending the ban on double edged knives, and HB 1935, totally getting rid of the idea of illegal knives, have been reported out of the Criminal Jurisprudence Committee and are also waiting for the Calendar Committee to bring them to the floor. A Bowie knife is a better all purpose tool than a GI .45, are and there are circumstances where a six inch dagger or a sword cane is more appropriate for self defense than a Glock 23. Knife rights are a vital and necessary part of Second Amendment rights.
Strangely, clubs (including hatchets and tomahawks) are still banned and no legalization is. Arguably, these are less lethal weapons. Issue for 2019. What's happening in your state.

[LINK] Thank Ray for this one he just sent as I finished sending my last entry for the Errf Day edition. As expected; the moonbats put on a colorful show today. At least as colorful as a few good Tea Party events I've been to. Have to give credit where credit is due.
We should be thankful that we live in a country that is so far free enough for people of all stripes to put on a good show in public spaces. Especially when it's someone we disagree with. And the comic relief: priceless!
