Letter from A.X. Perez

I will bet money illegal aliens are already helping to rebuild after Harvey and Irma, for money of course. They are not stealing jobs from Americans, there is just so much work to be done there will be a certain carelessness is checking papers.

To my knowledge there is no program in place for people coming up through Mexico to do unskilled and semiskilled labor in the numbers for which there is demand. As a result when something like our recent weather double whammy there is no mechanism in place for persons coming over to get jobs helping rebuild.

Or rather, there is no legal mechanism, coyotes and other human smugglers are already cashing in, crooked bosses are taking advantage of their status as illegal aliens to cheat these workers on their wages and try to cut out American workers as much as possible (really, lots of work for everybody rebuilding. There were already not enough construction workers to do all the jobs available before the hurricanes.)

Regardless of what people say, current immigration law is written and enforced in such a way as to supply a pool of unskilled and semiskilled (and even a lot of skilled) workers as part of an underground economy where they are underpaid and undercut American workers. Furthermore, it appears to me that all the get tough noises coming out of Washington will exacerbate the situation if actually implemented as policy. There will be more “rapists, murderers … ‘bad hombres’” assming in hiding in a sea of even more desperate honest workers and refugees.

Apparently those who are exploiting illegal aliens find creating a pool of client voters for our socialistically inclined faux liberals and letting in the criminals listed above. an acceptable price to keep doing what their doing. And apparently our politicians find doing these things an acceptable price to make tough noises and essentially do nothing.

This is not acceptable.

Thought for the Day

Without the right to self defense, the right to life exists only at the convenience, competence, and benevolence of government.

Propositions

Concerning the proposition that the Bill of Rights was intended to apply only to the Federal Government and not to the States, considering the Second Amendment

It’s simply not logical

• It doesn’t make sense that a Federal government can acknowledge an individual right that is denied by it’s subsidiary governments

• The First Amendment is distinguished in that it clearly applies only to the Federal government (“Congress shall make no law regarding…”); none of the other Amendments use that construction. If the Second Amendment were meant to apply only to the Federal Government, it would read “Congress shall make no law regarding the right of people to keep and bear arms.”

The definition of militia

The founders unambiguously defined a militia as the collection of all able-bodies adult men able to join together in the defense of their community or state, and maintaining their own arms for that purpose. The states would all recognize that definition during ratification, and indeed several states already had similar clauses in their State constitutions. One principle concern of the “odd wording” was avoiding language that would make militia service mandatory for religious objectors.

Madison and Hamilton in the Federalist provide language that unambiguously points to the arming of the whole population as people, not a select group, and not limited by the States

Hamilton, Federalist 29: Little more can reasonably be aimed at, with respect to the people at large, than to have them properly armed and equipped… if circumstances should at any time oblige the government to form an army of any magnitude that army can never be formidable to the liberties of the People while there is a large body of citizens, little, if at all, inferior to them in discipline and the use of arms, who stand ready to defend their own rights and those of their  fellow-citizens

Madison, Federalist 46: Besides the advantage of being armed, which the Americans possess over the People of almost every other nation, the existence of subordinate governments, to which the People are attached, and by which the militia officers are appointed, forms a barrier against the enterprises of ambition, more insurmountable than any which a simple government of any form can admit.

Letter from Paul Koning

The victim disarmament vultures are flying again…

Neil, Ken,

As expected, the victim disarmament vultures are out in force.

One particularly stupid one, as usual, is the Senator from Massachusetts Ed Markey. In response to the Las Vegas attacks, he is pushing his “smart handgun” law.

I came up with a nice analogy for that:

It’s like responding to a car bombing by pushing a law that requires door locks on motorcycles.
