Teaching Offense

Sometimes I think 99% of the trouble with current
society is the state of education, and the way we arrange to have people
teach kids who have never experienced any real trouble or problem what to
be offended at. In historical terms, we live incredibly safe lives in the
US. In historical terms, women live incredibly safe, incredibly equal
lives. And yet women here talk about the patriarchy, and are never done
with how much they are being oppressed and kept down. Dates are rape, bad
sex is rape, being looked at by a guy you don’t like is rape, being told
you’re less than perfect is the equivalent of rape, and for that matter
being forced to smile is “emotional labor” and unfair. Where does all
this come from?

Brexit and the Democratic Deficit

One of the more fatuous, though effective, claims
of the Leaver side in the Brexit Referendum was that we should “Take back
control”. The assumption behind this was that Britain before 1973 was
somehow more of a democracy than in 2016, and that leaving the European
Union would restore that state of affairs. The truth is, and always has
been in this country, as G.K. Chesterton said more than a century ago,
that “democracy has a right to answer questions, but it has no right to
ask them. It is still the political aristocracy that asks the questions”.

apocalypse in its latest of many recent incarnations, it came to me, in
the manner of spiritual leadings, that the entire Club of Rome report and
all its related concepts were cooked up after the truth about the
genocides in Europe under Hitler, in the Soviet Union under Stalin, and
in China under Mao began to come out after World War Two. The people in
power looked around the table and said, "We have to pretend there's
an excuse to justify all these deaths."
