Morning, Neil,
RE: “Stop And Frisk” by L. Neil Smith
“The first ten Amendments to the United States Constitution, commonly known as the Bill of Rights, i/s/ WAS the highest law of the land.”
FIFY.
“Compelling state interest” became the highest law in the land when we allowed the courts to invent “levels of scrutiny” without stringing up judges. And judges became the ultimate lawmakers.

Was that worth reading?
Then why not:
Re: “Unicorn Farts Is No Basis For a System of Government” by Sarah A. Hoyt
As I noted some time back (https://bearbussjaeger.wordpress.com/2018/09/16/socialists-defined/):
“Marxist-Leninist socialists go for a top down system of government control of markets and society. Democratic socialists want a bottom up system of government control of markets and society. Bottom up conveniently positions the people for what comes next.”

Today’s Albuquerque Journal, fresh from the driveway, has the following in the “Speak Up!” section of the Op-Ed page (A13)
BACKGROUND CHECKS can help reduce mass shootings if they are combined with other strong measures. Close the loopholes and make purchases that are now legal, illegal. MY
If that doesn’t sum up the hoplophobe and victim disarmer mindset, I don’t know what does.
This is why I am not fond of the phrase “law-abiding” when used by right-to-own-and-carry-weapons advocates in relation to gun owners. The openly-stated intent of the victim disarmers is to make it more difficult and more expensive to own any sort of firearm in a legal manner.
Y’all do realize that calling yourself a “law-abiding” gun owner while simultaneously sporting any “I WILL NOT COMPLY” graphics or signage is idiocy. For the very essence of “law-abiding” is compliance with every little asinine, ridiculous, burdensome edict put out by the Political Classholes?!
[ later: ]
From page A15 of the Friday, 28 February 2020 edition of the Albuquerque Journal, we have not one, but two "gems of wisdom."
First, the writer labels anyone that owns or carries a firearm a "gun possessor," and makes NO attempt to distinguish between criminal misuse of firearms and safe and proficient defensive uses.
So drug testing for welfare recipients, or as a condition of employment is unConstitutional and a violation of rights, but perfectly OK if you want to purchase a firearm?

Coronavirus Crisis Is Trump’s Time to Lead

I love the quote globalization’s chickens are coming home to roost.
I just hope enough people come November can see this for what it is regardless how bad things get. If not this one there will be other emerging diseases in the future. And to let someone like Bernie Sanders blow up the current health care system in a shot on the dark experiment with socialized medicine in the midst of a deadly pandemic is sheer insanity. Piggybacking a Green New Deal on top of that which includes a ban on fracking at a time when global oil supply chains may be disrupted is doubling down on the insanity.

Regarding an Ignorant Git
Michael Bloomberg made his fortune selling business information, including commodities futures information. I use his internet service to look up futures for West Texas Intermediate oil prices and gasoline prices. Back when I was working as a teacher in Texas I was balance between wanting a good price for Texas sweet light crude since Texas schools are supposed to be at least partially funded by oil royalties to the Lone Star State and the need for cheap gasoline for my daily commute. Checking these became a habit.
Michael Bloomberg’s company also posts information regarding agricultural futures. This requires some knowledge if there are going to be surpluses or shortages of crops, especially shortages. Farmers get to deal with heat waves, freezes, droughts, famine, pestilences, hurricanes, and just plain luck. The work is grueling and you have to plan and plan again to bring in a profitable crop (profitable meaning you get to feed yourself and your family.
Michael Bloomberg thinks that this work is easy and lacking in intellectual challenge.
Lately Bloomie admitted that he feels he bought at least 21 elections. There is nothing wrong with his spending money to gain positive publicity for himself and his supporters. It is up to us to tell the truth and speak up for his opponents, to turn out on election day and let him know that for every vote he buys two other people will vote against him for free, that for all those who support him, there are more who oppose him.
Or we can get stuck with a president who doesn’t get that people need weapons to defend freedom as well as lives and property and that freedom is more precious than he can imagine, more than just democracy. Or who doesn’t get how hard farming is, both physically and mentally.
