By genetics and disposition, I have a dream
of going out as I came in: screaming and
covered in someone else’s blood. I’m saying
the time is not yet. I’m saying now is the
time to prepare on all fronts.
Poor Ruth Is Dead, A Parody
by L. Neil Smith

Attribute to L. Neil Smith’s The Libertarian Enterprise
With Apologies to Richard Rodgers, Gordon MacRae, & Rod Steiger
Poor Ruth is dead
Ruth Ginsburg is dead
We'll gather 'round her coffin now and cry
She had a heart of gold
She was getting pretty old
But why was such a Justice doomed to die?
Poor Ruth is dead
Ruth Ginsburg is dead
She's lying there so peaceful and serene
(And serene!)
She's all laid out to rest
With her hands across her chest
Her liberal conscience never was so clean!
(spoken)
Then the preacher gets up and he says, "Folks, we are gathered
here to moan and groan over our sister Ruth who just couldn't hold
out any longer." Then there's weeping and wailing from all the
bleeding heart Progressives. Then he says, "Ruth was the most
misunderstood jurist in the whole republic. People used to think she
was a mean ugly leftist and they called her a Leninist and an ornery
Marxist.
"But folks who really knew her
Knew that beneath that robe she always wore
There beat a heart as big as all outdoors."
(All outdoors!)
"Ruth loved her fellow beings."
(She loved her fellow beings)
"She loved the birds of the air and the beasts of the field.
She loved the mice and the vermin in the Congress, and she treated
Democrats like equals, which was … weird. And she loved little
children. She loved everybody and everything in the whole world! Only
she never let on, so nobody ever knew it!"
Poor Ruth is dead
Ruth Ginsburg is dead
Her friends will weep and wail for miles around
(Miles Around!)
The decisions in the court
Will no longer list to port
Because Poor Ruth is safely underground
Poor Ruth is dead
A candle lights her head
She's lying in a coffin made of wood
(Made of wood!)
And the left is feeling sad
The right used to treat her bad
But now they know their friend is gone for good
Gone for good!
Poor Ruth is dead
A candle lights her head
She's looking oh so pretty and so nice
She looks like she's asleep
It's a shame that she won't keep
But it's summer and we're running out of ice
Poor Ruth, poor Ruth …
