A MESSAGE FROM THE PUBLISHER
I observed earlier this week to our Mighty Editor Ken Holder that no matter how interesting, thought-provoking, and liberal-head-exploding my articles and essays get, the number of remarks and responses from our readers seems to have dwindled. He agreed and said that he didn’t know why. I don’t know why, either.
I guess it’s possible that my readers agree with me, feel I’m speaking for them, and believe no further comment is necessary. Yeah, right. Maybe they’re just intimidated. I can play pretty rough in print. An ex-wife of mine often complained that I am intimidating that way, to which I can only plead the “Harmless, Lovable Little Fuzzball” defense. It could be that potential critics simply reject what I write as ridiculous and irrelevant, certainly not worth troubling themselves over. In any case it would not change what I write or how I write it, but it would be useful to know.
As Ken points out every week, this is a reader-supported publication. Usually that means we appreciate your monetary support. And we do. But there are a couple of other ways that you can engage and maybe help us alter the course of history just a little. The first is simply to let us (and other readers) know what you’re seeing and hearing and thinking and feeling—we’re only a few keystrokes away.
The other way is to help us reach out further than we do now. If you simply forwarded L. Neil Smith’s The Libertarian Enterprise to three people every week who do not see it now, it would help us, it would help the general freedom movement, and, ultimately, it would help you. Do it every day and it could even make a microscopic difference in what many pundits predict is going to be a razor-close election. Or would you rather have Willie-humping closet communist Kamala Harris as your de facto next President?
This pundit (if pundit I be) doesn’t really believe it’s going to be a close election, but either way, disgruntled Democrats (who are eternally unhappy win or lose) are going to make the next four years a rough ride. As the tiny candle of reason in a great darkness that we try to be, we could use your help.
Thanks a bunch,
L. Neil Smith, Publisher and Senior Columnist

Burning and Curing
by Sarah A. Hoyt
Everywhere you turn these days, the term “civil war”
is on everyone’s lips. We know the left WANTS one, both because they tell
us they do, and because, true to their mechanic of projection, they
tell us it’s the “right” that wants the civil war, and latch onto the
craziest things, like Hawaiian shirts, which men of certain portliness
wear, as a sure sign we’re now wearing a uniform and we “want a civil war.”

It’s hard to fight a culture war when you ain’t

Occasional Thoughts on The Coronavirus
by Sean Gabb
This short book is a collection of essays written
and published during the Coronavirus Panic of 2020. Some of these had
a wide circulation. One was viewed, on the main site where it
appeared, more than a hundred thousand times. None was viewed fewer
than five thousand times. I have, moreover, several writers for the
Establishment media on my distribution list. Though, since I came to
their notice during the Iraq War, the rule is that I can be copied but
never acknowledged, I was pleased to see arguments and sometimes whole
sentences reproduced for a still larger readership. Therefore, if
short, the content of the essays has made some contribution to the
British debate on the Coronavirus. This, I think, justifies my
publishing them now as a collection.

How Have They Gotten Away With It?
by Manuel Miles (a.k.a. Kaptain Kanada)
“I have spent my entire lifetime treading
water in an ocean of lies. I am fucking sick and tired of it.”—L. Neil
Smith The above comment struck quite a chord with me. El
Neil’s experience is universal, but both his awareness of and his
response to it are rare. The current Covid scam, for example, makes a
rare few souls question how its promoters have been able to get away
with such a con game.

When it Rains it Pours—or Sometimes It Doesn’t
by Jeff Fullerton
One week later things are looking better.
Found my leak last Sunday and managed to make repairs
the following day. As suspected it was a cracked coupling where Uncle
Budd and I made a splice to replace a section of the line that sprang
a leak back in the 70s. I was a teenager then—it was that long ago! I
was able to replace it with a slightly longer section of pipe I had
on hand and had spare couplings so there was no need to run out and
buy anything-thank goodness.
