The World Turned Upside-Down
by L. Neil Smith
Sometimes—rarely—we are afforded a lightning flash
of clarity before the murky clouds of history roll back over us
again. If you want to know the most significant fact of the past
two-hundred fifty years, it is this: on October 19th, 1781, following
their humiliating defeat at the Battle of Yorktown at the hands of
American Revolutionary forces, the surrendering British command
ordered their military band to play a song called ”The World Turned
Upside-Down”. (Ironically, given current events, the song was
originally a popular protest against Parliament’s puritanical order
not to celebrate Christmas in the traditional, boisterous, merry, and
colorful English way.)

When The King Comes Home
by Sarah A. Hoyt
The week after the election, I was very
disappointed in an acquaintance that I both like and respect
intellectually. As I was saying that if we let this election stand,
the republic is gone, he said if our institutions were already
corrupt enough to let this stand, the republic has been gone a long
time, perhaps our whole life. I was angry, because well…. Because I
prefer people spit out the black pill. Sure, maybe the game is
rigged, but as RAH put it, if you don’t bet you can’t win. As it
turns out, we were both right, but mostly wrong.

Reply To Joe Biden’s “Call For Unity”
Found On Twitter
Here is my little bitty small issue with the
whole, “Let us all be a United States” again, from Joe Biden. For the
last four+ years, you Democrats have gone scorched Earth.

The European Union Trade and Cooperation Treaty: A Very Brief Review
by Sean Gabb
I know that many of my friends have looked at
the massive block of text that is the final agreement of our
withdrawal from the European Union, and decided that we have been
tricked again. My own preference would have been for a complete
break, followed by unilateral free trade abroad and a libertarian
revolution at home. However, I have taken the trouble to read the
text—not, I accept, with the fullest attention: it is, after all,
1,246 pages long. There may be hidden traps that my reading has
overlooked. Certainly, the reality of any agreement is less its
wording than the approach the various sides take to implementing it.
Even so, what my reading suggests is that this is somewhere between
passingly acceptable and a diplomatic triumph.

FREEDOM AGENDA 21: Resolve To Grow Freedom & Weaken The Beast Through Agorism
by Mike Swatek
Each of us can easily expand our fight for
individual freedom in the new year. You can do many of the things
shared below. In a nutshell, this includes anything, big or small,
which weakens the state, its crony corporations or its global
financial power-mad masters, altogether herein called, “the
beast”. If we all resolve to do this, we will become freer,
especially in our own lives.

Art of Liberty
by Jim Davidson
Last week, I was invited to visit Lake Havasu,
Arizona for a gathering of voluntaryists. There was camping at Craggy
Wash. There was a bed and breakfast in town. Nice swimming pool, but
very cold when I jumped in. Nobody heats swimming pools in that part
of Arizona.

2020: On the Whole, Rather a Good Year
by Sean Gabb
I could make a review of this passing year into a
litany of complaint. My opening would be that England is clearly a
place where the authorities can lie their heads off and be believed
by a nation of sheep. But, while England clearly is that place, when
was it ever different—here or anywhere else? The Coronavirus is only
the latest turn in a game between abused and abusers played out in
every time and place. Those of us who want no part in the game, I
suggest, should give up whining about facemasks and iffy vaccines,
and try to look on the bright side. This latest turn in the game,
after all, has not been attended by any act of mass-murder, or by
some uncommon lack of rationality. Instead, there has been a bright
side to 2020—if only we care to look for it, a very bright side.

Secret of the Rosary, by St. Louis de Montfort
Revewed by Jim Davidson
My own experience with the rosary began in the
Summer of 2020 when I experienced a very strong leading to go buy a
rosary. At the time, I was still living in Dayton, Ohio, so I found a
nice store downtown that had them in stock.

Norseman’s Diaries: I’m Dreaming of a Green Christmas & Prelude to The Forces of Nature
by Jeff Fullerton
With Christmas approaching this week my thoughts
were on the weather which has turned quite nasty the previous week
with a snow blitz that began one evening while I was at work and made
for a very rough ride home that I was lucky enough to get within
reasonable walking distance of my door.
