The Measure of Mankind
by L. Neil Smith
Many years ago, thoroughly sickened and disgusted
with hearing my species routinely denounced in the most demeaning
terms by self-loathing leftists, I realized that you could learn
whatever you want to know about Homo sapiens sapiens, that
bloodthirsty, murderous, warlike, rapacious gaggle of killer-apes, by
comparing the historical development of its proficiency at conducting
warfare with its ability to do something else very different: fly.

Getting Their Horns Caught in the Thicket
by Sarah A. Hoyt
I read somewhere between amusement and horror
that the Biden administration wants THE WORLD to create a worldwide
corporate tax, to “alleviate poverty” and so that “everyone pays their
fair share.” Of course the reasons they give are nonsense. There might
be some idiots who believe them, but by and large they’re nonsense.
And then I realized why they wanted this, and I started to cackle.

When Texas Froze Over
by Sean Gangol
Last February, Texas experienced a rare event that
involved snow, sleet and temperatures that went as low as ten degrees.
Now for those of you living up North you are probably rolling your
eyes and shrugging. As a native Texan, I can tell you that seeing snow
is a rare event. Usually when we do see snow, there is usually not
enough to make a snow-cone, much less a snowman. While we do
experience cold-snaps, it is very rare to see temperatures as low as
ten degrees.

Building Freedom Land
by Jim Davidson
The idea of having a new free country has been with
us for a long time. In some ways, the founders of the United States
had that idea on 19 April 1775 when the guns began to shoot. They had
previously formed committees of correspondence and those had begun
forming a continental congress, and it was not long before they had a
mess. Some of the words came out well, though, such as the preamble to
the Declaration of Independence, and its signature clause. Tom Paine
did really good work documenting the purpose of the struggle for
freedom in a series of essays which became Common Sense and
The American Crisis.
