HB1927 & SB 162
HB 1927 is in Conference Committee at this time. The bill providing for Constitutional Carry will probably pass once it gets through this committee. Interestingly, if it passes after the 21st of May it will automatically become law even if Governor Abbott doesn't sign as the Texas Constitution requires that any bill passed in the last ten days of the session automatically become law unless the Governor actually vetoes it, something a man who actually made his brag to sign such a bill is unlikely to do. (This paragraph contains too many probablies and likelies for my ease of mind.)
SB 162 also likely to pass. This bill makes it a state crime to lie on your form 4473 when attempting to purchase a firearm. This is actually a reasonable law, given Federal laziness is busting people who purchase firearms who legally shouldn't, then pro-gun control types using this to push for more onerous laws. From what I hear, one would rather do time in Fed Prison than Texas State Prison. Assuming the only people seeking to buy guns for nefarious purposes would try to buy one when ineligible, this law isn't unjust. (Hopefully prosecutors will exercise discretion in cases of ineligible buyers getting a piece to protect their homes or because they are being stalked, etc..)

Was that worth reading?
Then why not:
Re: “Cultural Hold” by Sarah A. Hoyt
Regarding hard times make hard men: According to William Berkeley 4 out of 5 new hands died within 5 years of settling in Virginia (note: this includes indentured servants from England and slaves from Africa.) Damn skiffy hard times make hard men, by killing the soft and hardening the survivors.
Proper food clothing and shelter make strong and healthy people, and protecting their loved ones gives them incentive to become even stronger.
