But there is no asterisk in the Bill of Rights: “Void in Case of Virus.” — Jim Bovard
The Blue of Their Berets

I got a mass e-mailing today from Gun Owners of America, more or less on behalf of Congressman Ron Paul. It concerned the creation on April 11 of a so-called International Criminal Court under the aegis of that fountainhead of liberty and justice, the United Nations.
GOA's concern, and Paul's, is that this court -- which will not operate according to English jury system standards -- plans to claim authority to override the sovereignty, constitutions, lesser laws and customs, and traditional justice systems of any countries it chooses. That means if the court decides that your exercise of free speech or the right to own and carry weapons -- well-established liberties in the United States, however much they may find themselves under attack from time to time -- offends its collectivist sensibilities, it thinks it can send blue-hatted goons to deal with you however it wishes.
What the GOA didn't say (although I doubt they'd disagree with me) is that the Clintons, Bushes, Schumers, Bennetts, Feinsteins, Ridges, Gepharts, Rumsfelds, and Waxmans are delighted with this new court and probably helped make it happen. They're perfectly willing to pay third world goons to do what they haven't been able to -- strip 80 million Americans of 750 million guns. To those of us who value and defend our rights, it seemed like bad news that 20-odd percent of Marines queried would shoot their fellow countrymen who refused to surrender their weapons. It was even worse news to those who think they own our lives: they know now that they can only depend on a fraction of their own troops to disarm America.
They also understand that much of America has had a belly-full of assaults on its rights in the name of this crisis or that emergency, but always and forever to preserve and extend their power. They know that one more trespass may start a fire they can't put out. Even if the round-heeled mass media didn't admit it, the red and blue Election 2000 map was a shock to the enemies of freedom in both parties. They recognize, if nobody else does, that it didn't record a vote for Bush, but against their boot on our necks. History will someday accept the notion that that map -- not the airliner attack -- was the beginning of the "War on Terrorism".
Meanwhile, as of April 11, we have this United Nations court to contend with. In one of his final obscene Oval Office acts, Waco Willie officially signed onto the idea. It hasn't been ratified by the Senate, but the smart money expects Socialist Party A to take care of that practically any moment now.
Paul, with whom I disagree on only one issue (admittedly a big one) out of perhaps ten thousand, has responded by introducing House Resolution #4169, calling on Bush to revoke Clinton's signature before the Democrat-controlled Senate can approve the international criminal court. His resolution also provides for a lot of other nifty things. The trouble is, the court serves the purposes of the Bush regime and Bush isn't going to do a thing to stop it.
Nevertheless, I urge you to click on over to the GOA site at http://www.gunowners.org/activism.htm, read Paul's resolution, then write whatever lower-class thieving criminal claims to represent you in Congress and order him/her/it to give it his/her/its full support. Write the upper-class thieving criminals who claim to represent you in the Senate and order them/them/them not to ratify.
That's where most columns on this subject would end, but there's more to be said. It's important to understand, that what's being proposed here is illegal, and there's no easy way to make it legal. Article Six, Section Two of the Constitution says it plainly:
"This Constitution, and the Laws of the United States which shall be made in Pursuance thereof; and all Treaties made, or which shall be made, under the Authority of the United States, shall be the supreme Law of the Land; and the Judges in every State shall be bound thereby, any Thing in the Constitution or Laws of any State to the Contrary notwithstanding."
When I first read those words, they worried me. How could a treaty have equivalence with the Constitution -- wouldn't that be like being ruled by foreigners? Then I realized that if treaties, other laws, and the main body of the Constitution are equivalent, that means they're all trumped by the highest law of the land, the Bill of Rights. Any treaty that threatens the guarantees provided by the first ten amendments is automatically null and void. You don't have to obey it, and anyone who tries to make you is a criminal.
Of course the Bill of Rights itself has been under attack in this country for a long time. Anyone who exercises his Second Amendment rights in most American cities will find himself behind bars pretty quickly. But that's illegal, too, and it's what our fight is all about. If we succeed, it'll be the politicians and bureaucrats who go to jail. The real law -- whether it's about personal weapons or the United Nations -- is, and always has been, on the side of liberty.
Last year I introduced a general principle I called "This time it has to cost them something". It isn't enough merely to keep them from doing to us whatever they want to do -- this time -- breathe a sigh of relief and return to our lives. They'll just be back again for another crack at our liberties. The parasitic scum that have risen to the top of our particular barrel -- and their overseas thug-buddies -- must be taught that those of us who value and defend our rights do not take this kind of threat lightly.
The first thing it has to cost them is the United Nations itself. For decades, there's been a simmering undercurrent in America against this corrupt, illegal organization. (Its "Universal Declaration of Rights" makes it a crime to criticize the United Nations.) United Nations troops brutalize, rape, rob, and murder the helpless, disarmed inhabitants of poor, backward countries and they're anxious to start here. Somehow that never makes the evening news. Recently the United Nations openly declared its intention to abolish the Bill of Rights.
We've gone to war over lesser provocations. Like Nazi Germany and Imperial Japan, the United Nations is America's enemy because it aims to erase everything that makes this country worthwhile. It's time to quit the United Nations, expel its vile, sleazy gangsters from our country, raze its buildings to the ground so that not one stone is left standing on another, and sow salt on the ruins.
The United Nations must be destroyed.
It's time that those of us who value and defend our rights did something to make that happen. I'm sure the Birchers and others have plenty of data to offer about the United Nations, but the best place to go in my estimation is Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership (http://www.jpfo.org or 1(800)869-1884 -- tell 'em Neil sent you). They have lots of material describing the threat the United Nations represents to our concept of individual liberty, but the best is their modest little "Gran'pa Jack" comic booklet, which can be read and understood by kids and adults alike, and bought in large numbers at reasonable prices for wide distribution.
The United Nations must be destroyed.
Leave one behind next time you visit a doctor, a dentist, or a barber.
The United Nations must be destroyed.
Finally (but only for now -- I plan to return to this subject from time to time), I will break all precedent by saying, here in public, that "There oughta be a law". It can be a city ordinance or charter amendment, a county law (whatever those are called), a state law or constitutional amendment, a federal law, or an amendment to the US Constitution itself. It doesn't even matter if it ever passes: simply bringing it up -- being careful to advocate due process as you do -- should be enough to dampen enthusiasm for an international court or any other United Nations-inspired trespass against our freedom.
The United Nations must be destroyed.
The law? "It shall be an affirmative defense", when someone shoots someone else, that the one who got shot worked for the United Nations. When the blue-hatted goons come to deal with you, it will be perfectly legal to deal with them -- the way we dealt with the Redcoats.
The United Nations must be destroyed.
