Avoiding the Next Gold Confiscation

One of the readers of The Libertarian Enterprise
wrote to mention that gold confiscation is a threat.
It is true that in 1933, as part of the so-called
"National Banking Emergency," President Franklin
D. Roosevelt ordered all the gold in the country
confiscated. Later, finding less of it had been
turned in than the central planners had hoped, they
raised the exchange rate from $20 per ounce to $35
per ounce—75% inflation in one go—and gave a
brief amnesty.
