THE CURRENT ISSUE

EDITORIAL MATTERS:

Sign of the Times: we usually get 3 or 4 free calendars from various local/regional businesses we patronize. This year: none. What's that say about the economy, eh?

Mark your calendar, Dear Readers, today is the beginning of the Libertarian Revolution—finally! Today is published the first chapter of What Libertarians Believe, by our Publisher, the lovely and talented L. Neil Smith, and his daughter, the even more lovely and equally talented Rylla Cathryn Smith. Today marks the beginning of the end for Statists, Socialists, Fascists, and—more importantly—those Pseudo-/Semi-/Nerf- libertarians who are just too embarrassed to work-out the full meaning of the Libertarian Principle. They will no longer be able to hide. You heard it here first, Dear Readers, and you were here in-on that Beginning-of-the-End. Mark your calendar, put a note in your diary, and you can tell your grandchildren about this great day. "Look in Issue Number 500 of The Libertarian Enterprise," you'll tell them, "And rejoice."

In addition to the Smith and Smith "how to do it" manual, we also jump-start the Libertarian Revolution with our first specific project: "This Looks Like a Job for... The NRCC!", by L. Neil Smith. Now we really do live in interesting—and exciting!—times!

What Libertarians Believe
by L. Neil Smith and Rylla Cathryn Smith
This is not a book about libertarian philosophy (there are plenty of those already) but about the way libertarian philosophy applies to the making of libertarian policy. Libertarians are often accused—by political opponents, and worse, by some within the movement, who would destroy it in a misguided attempt to make it more "palatable" to a general public whom they apparently don't know very well—of being impractical, unpragmatic, unaware of a real world around them, lost to fantasy.

Humans as Livestock
by Paul Bonneau
Stefan Molyneux has put out a remarkable video that takes a look at the human condition. It explains why many of us have been feeling like we are being treated like livestock lately. Human society is a farm, with the ruling class as the farmers and the rest of us as cattle.

Well-Intentioned Insanity
by Kent McManigal
I don't believe most statists (those who believe "government" is a legitimate human endeavor) are bad people. I believe they are mostly well-intentioned. I also think they are a bit insane. Or at least in serious denial.

Israel Has No Right To Exist
by Puck T. Smith
I have been watching with horror as the current escalation of violence between the government of Israel and Hamas thrusts itself upon the consciousness of the world. It has prompted me to consider the oft repeated canard about Israel's "right to exist." Based on the principles that have come to inform my political philosophy I am forced to conclude Israel has no such "right."

Think We're Free? (For those that still think we might be)
by A. R. Salyer
Think we're free? Try sending your child to your local government indoctrination camp (public schools) without paperwork confirming their latest round of vaccines.

Reasonable, Common Sense Regulation
by A.X. Perez
First of let me state clearly that about the only weapons civilians shouldn't be allowed to own are thermonuclear explosives exceeding five megatons ( about right for penetrating Far West Texas caliche and blasting out medium large mesquite roots). Unfortunately the US government disagrees with me and has somewhat stricter rules. Advocates of these rules claim they are only asking for "reasonable, common sense gun control." Lovers of freedom claim that gun control is semantically equivalent to victim disarmament.

The Kaptain's Log

by Manuel Miles, aka Kaptain Kanada
In a previous article at TLE I mentioned that my parents used certain joking expressions which held a lot of meaning for them. One of these was, of course, "Wrong way, Corrigan!" about which I wrote in the above-cited article. Another was based on a cartoon which amused them...

US Collapse: Russian Professor Predicts US Disintegration By June 2010
by Russell D. Longcore
Recently I wrote an article entitled "Could The United States Federal Government Collapse?" Well, it seems that a distinguished Russian thinker believes it will collapse soon.

Contingency Plans
by A.X. Perez
On Page One of the 29 December 2008 El Paso Times (possibly one of the most intellectually and politically lightweight papers of all time) there was an article regarding a war college report on the risks of civil unrest due to the current economic crisis. Considering the source my attention was aroused.

Of Irony, Ideology and Vocabulary
The Kaptains Log (again)

by Manuel Miles, aka Kaptain Kanada
In his cheery Message From The Publisher for the Christmas edition of TLE, L.Neil Scrooge treated us to a brief summary of his religion—oops—"objective reality". While it is not my practice to argue with people about their religious beliefs, non-beliefs or personal philosophies about The Meaning (or meaninglessness) of Life, I do and will argue what is important to the cause of Peace and Liberty with friends, foes and total strangers alike.

This Looks Like a Job for... The NRCC!
by L. Neil Smith
It says here legislation has been introduced in several states that will effectively make the Second Amendment a dead letter, not by controlling commercial traffic in guns, but by monitoring the sales of ammunition.
