Secrets and Lies
by L. Neil Smith
It was announced today that the thirty-five year prison sentence of
Chelsea Manning has been Presidentially commuted. Barack Obama
deserves no credit for this, he’s only planting land-mines for
Donald Trump. When she is released in May (no, I don’t know why
the delay), she will have served seven years, during which she was
confined in such an inhumane manner that she went mad and tried to
kill herself more than once. Knowing the mentality of jailers as we
do, we can only imagine the other ways that she was intimidated and
tortured by corrupt “corrections” personnel, acting under
the scoundrel’s excuse of patriotism.

Inaugural Address
by Donald Trump
We, the citizens of America, are now joined in a great national
effort to rebuild our country and to restore its promise for all of our people. Together,
we will determine the course of America and the world for years to come. We will face
challenges. We will confront hardships. But we will get the job done.

First Inaugural Address
by Thomas Jefferson
Called upon to undertake the duties of the first executive office
of our country, I avail myself of the presence of that portion of my
fellow-citizens which is here assembled to express my grateful thanks
for the favor with which they have been pleased to look toward me, to
declare a sincere consciousness that the task is above my talents, and
that I approach it with those anxious and awful presentiments which
the greatness of the charge and the weakness of my powers so justly inspire.

Julius Schulman Violin Hero
by J. Neil Schulman
I became, first, a photographer, then a writer, then a filmmaker,
because I did not learn to play the violin like my father, Julius Schulman. My father,
simply and demonstrably, was one of the greatest violinists of the twentieth century,
a century noted for master violinists such as Yehudi Menuhin, Efrem Zimbalist, Sr., Mischa
Elman, David Oistrackh, Isaac Stern, Zino Francescatti, Leonid Kogan, and of course, Jascha Heifetz.

The Essential Villain
by L. Reichard White
As even high-school composition students will tell you, the most
important character in any script is the Dastardly Villain. Without one, the
script fails and the show flops. None the less, this appears to be one area where Uncle
Sam is cutting the budget. Either that or he's hiring teen scripters with comic-book-hero
aspirations. Or it could be these scripts are written for folks with the sophistication
of the average voter. To begin with, it seems Uncle likes to reuse old scripts.
"Scary Muslims" for example. And lately his scripters have been attempting
to resurrect the "Scary Russian" meme from the latter half of the 20th
Century, now starring Vladimir Putin instead of Stalin or Khrushchev.

The Norseman's Diaries: Sometimes Even Heaven Can Be Hell
by Jeff Fullerton
After a long cold night about a week ago; the brunt of the Vortex
finally abated Already up to the low thirties according to the back porch thermometer
and the house finally caught up to the setting of 68 degrees around noon (actually it
was 67 when I checked but close enough) and I switched back to the outside unit.
The weather this week turned out more the Norseman’s definition of Heaven. 45
Tuesday, 50 on Wed and near 60 on Thursday before falling back into the seasonal norms
maybe next week. And that is plenty good. Easier on my fuel reserves and it will help
run out the clock on the low sun months and the vortexes. I was very thankful
this one that just passed had been so short lived.
