“Gun control is the idea that it’s better to see a woman dead in an alley, strangled
with her own pantyhose, than to see her with a gun in her hand.”—T.D. Melrose

Space Cadets—For a Libertarian Future!
by L. Neil Smith
As a veteran science fiction writer, I have been known to make a prediction of the future from time to time. I’ve made some embarrassingly silly misses, such as the booming popularity in America of Brazilian cars, or the advanced technology required for your car to have its own answering machine. But I also predicted the Internet, wall-sized TV/monitors, laptop and tablet computers, computer-aided forensics, and the massive acceptance of .40 caliber weapons.

Why Did Ancient Civilisation Collapse?
by Richard Blake
In Chapter XXX of his Human Action, Ludwig von Mises says this about the collapse of ancient civilisation: Knowledge of the effects of government interference with market prices makes us comprehend the economic causes of a momentous historical event, the decline of ancient civilization.

Sex Hunt
by J. Neil Schulman
Back in the late 50’s / early 60’s, when I was a kid, one of my favorite TV shows was Sea Hunt, starring Lloyd Bridges (long before he picked the wrong day to stop sniffing glue) as ex-Navy and now free-lance frogman Mike Nelson.

The Norseman’s Diaries: The Extended Summer Edition
by Jeff Fullerton
Like many a Saturday I’m torn once more between writing an article and doing something productive on what is looking to be a really nice sunny day the likes of which will soon becoming few and far between. That after what I have started to call the Extended Summer. Literally extended well into the month of October. Perhaps a fitting compensation for another lackluster summer where I didn’t get to do all the things I had planned on. It’s very much like my search for the perfect day that never comes.

The Surrealistic Insanity of “Paying For” Tax Cuts
by L. Neil Smith
I am not an economist, nor do I play one on TV, but I know a hand-job when I see one. The mindless mutants who are mangling Donald Trump’s tax plans are dragging this nation and the world into a Da-Daesque vortex we may never get out of. (Only a “progressive” Democrat would stomp a man’s legs. break them in a dozen places, and then make fun of him because he can’t walk.) While lowering almost everybody’s taxes, they want a special bracket appended to the deal to punish people with a million dollars or more to “pay for” everybody else’s tax relief. My question, in an era when government takes too much away from us already, why the bloody hell should it be allowed to steal more?
