Staycation In A Glass

During this embarrassingly farcical exile period—house
arrest imposed on us illegally by Colorado’s communist governor and his
comic-relief slave-legislature—with nothing but the same corona virus
garbage on TV, hour after hour, day after day, I have discovered two ways
to survive. At my advanced age, stuck as I am in this wheelchair (don’t
get me wrong, it’s the best damn office-chair I’ve ever owned) I can
write, or I can drink. My heart doctor tells me that the latter is good
for me and I try to do a little of both, every day.

Come out, come out, wherever you are. Tomorrow is
what was known in the village as The Saturday of Hallelujah. Sunday is
Easter. Passover night was between the eighth and the 9th. Even though
we’ll be pounded with snow this weekend, the year is turning to life and
light. And we’re stuck inside, the American economy in ruins, by the
orders of our “betters” following those infallible computer models they’re
so fond of. We’re subjected, every day, to more ridiculous, job-killing,
wealth-destroying dictates from our lords and masters.

Stop Obeying. Your Chains: Break Them

The time has come to stop obeying. The truth is that
all jobs and all businesses are essential to the people who depend on
their job and their business to survive. There are only about 180,000
police in the United States. There are tens of millions now out of work,
and tens of thousands of businesses that are closed. If you re-open your
business and you’re the only one, the cops will come and close you up. If
you re-open your business and everyone else in your community do the same
thing, you outnumber the police.

The Phantom of the CDC

Knowing something about the subject, I have been
wondering at the CDC’s steadfast refusal to acknowledge that wearing masks
in public would help reduce the spread of the disease. And I’m tired of
getting mocked for expressing that opinion even after the CDC somewhat
agrees to allowing public wearing of masks, no matter how reluctantly. So
I looked up the data. It was frightfully easy, with a little Google fu—and
knowing enough to phrase my search terms meaningfully.

The Burnt Land

Ahmed Kalinle trudged across the path to the next engine
mounting. Here at 80 feet below ground, the temperature was a persistent
60 degrees Fahrenheit. Only in the last two years had Ahmed been working
with Americans so he thought of the temperature as 15.5 Celsius. Although
it was a very hot June day above ground here in the Guban desert, the
conditions underground were much more like the mountain city of Borama on
a day in December or January. So Ahmed wore a long sleeved shirt and
enjoyed the situation very much.
