Think About It
Many years ago, I told a person I didn’t like not lean on a pole. I did so in a tone of voice meant to provoke defiance ( I was 13, maybe 15 at the time). Of course, he leaned right up against the pole. Then he asked me why.
“It’s swarming with ants.”
He was pissed. Don’t blame him, found out later they were fire ants.
Of course, people should never respond blindly to the voice of authority. And definitely abuse of power should be resisted without hesitation. Just don’t grab a hold of a pole full of swarming fire ants out of contrarian pique without looking. Contrariwise, sometime you grab that pole and make up your mind to accept the pain for a good reason. Just remeber that unthinking obedience and unthinking defiance are just that unthinking, and therefor counterproductive.
