“Gun control is the idea that it’s better to see a woman dead in an alley, strangled
with her own pantyhose, than to see her with a gun in her hand.”—T.D. Melrose

Unclean! Unclean! The Chinese Sneeze
by L. Neil Smith
I know from epidemics. I grew up without a grandfather because, thanks to that political worm-casting Woodrow Wilson, he died during the 1918 Spanish Influenza outbreak at an Army camp in Waco, Texas. I would like to have had a grandfather. He was a cowboy, got into bar-fights, and twice disarmed badguys who tried to hold up his mother’s business. My poor parents sweated out summers in the 1950s when swimming pools were emptied and movie theaters shut down because nobody knew what caused crippling poliomyelitis or how it was transmitted (when was the last time you heard the horrible phrase “iron lung”?). I had one kind of flu after another in my adult years until I started refusing flu shots.

A State of Madness
by Sarah A. Hoyt
There is an appeal to insanity, a certain joy in letting go and joining the howling. The Mass Media which had found they’d lost their power when trying to lead us in the paths they thought rational, have discovered they can still scare us. This makes them very happy, and has convinced them that they will soon have us voting for whom they want us to, by the power of stampeding.

Mary Relapses
by Jim Davidson
John Kell stood amongst the remaining rucksacks, many of them partly emptied, some of them having been carried away to other parts of the camp. He was in the middle of the oval where the slaves had exercised back when the camp was still being run by the owners.

A Story for Our Times
by Sean Gabb
I remain sceptical about the direct impact of the Coronavirus. When I say sceptical, I don't mean that I deny outright there is any danger, but that I shall need to see much higher rates of infection and death than we so far have before I start taking serious precautions.

Rush Limbaugh: Talk Radio Pioneer
by Sean Gangol
If anybody told me fifteen years ago that I would be writing something that fell between a tribute and a defense of Rush Limbaugh, I would have told that person that he was full of crap. I am embarrassed to admit it but there was a time when I had the same image that modern leftists have of Rush Limbaugh. For years the left compared Limbaugh’s rhetoric to that of Alex Jones’ rants about black helicopters and chemicals that turn frogs gay, which I believed without actually bothering to listen to a single one of his broadcasts. At the time I was going through a stage where I only wanted to hear the libertarian point of view and conservatives such as Rush Limbaugh just weren’t libertarian enough for my tastes.

Do You Want Death Squads?
an article about the “homeless,” urban life, and police priorities

by Eric Oppen
Every year in December I go out to Southern California. My brother and sister-in-law like having the whole family around at Christmas, and since I’m all alone in the world, they invite me out. I enjoy myself and have a good time. The last time I was out, though, I noticed that something had changed.

How Quickly Can Things Go To Hell?
by James L. Horsey
There is a lot of conjecture on the net about the possibility of a second Civil War, due to a dividing political rift between Democrat Leftists and Republican Conservatives. Democrats have changed to a party promising either a Socialist/Communist candidate, or a candidate on the verge of senile dementia. The Republicans have changed to a party promoting the old-time virtues of honesty, honor, truth, justice, freedom, and the American Way. I personally feel that the Democrat party is ripe for a split, which is evidenced by anti-American statements from all the Democrat candidates, their inability to fill a Gymnasium for a rally, and the fact that 30% of Trump rally attendees admit to being Democrats. Conflict has happened in our history before. It is instructive to look at how fast these changes can occur.
